Was Mako Island based of a real island?

i think mako is a shark. idk.

I don't think so, coz the island looks pretty fake :P lol. I agree with the first answer, it could've been named after the Mako Shark. The picture is a Mako shark. Oh yeah, and in season two, doesn't it say that there are sometimes Mako sharks around the island??

Yes I believe that there is a mako island in Australia and that mga sirena are real and that mako island moon pool is magic

Somtimes people say it is and some say it isnt but my opinion is that it is real

Yes the island itself is indeed a real island located 50km of the goal coast of Queensland Australia. It's tahanan to many types of animal life and sharks. However the island isn't called Mako, in real life. The only thing I'm unsure of is the name itself. To the north of the island there is a place called Tritons reef, a place where sharks go to breed.
