Kristen Stewart is to star in Elizabeth Bank\'s reboot of \'Charlie\'s Angels\'
NEARLY TWENTY YEARS after Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore and Lucy Liu became the original Independent Women, there’s going to be an all-new cast for a new Charlie’s Angels movie.
Twilight star Kirsten Stewart has been announced as one of the Angels, alongside Naomi Scott, best known for her role in last year’s Power Rangers, and British newcomer Ella Balinska.
Scott will play Jasmine in next year’s live-action Aladdin  which also stars Will Smith, and is set to be released next May.
The film’s cast shows a growing shift towards more ethnic diversity in Hollywood films.
Both Scott and Balinksa are British, with Scott’s mother being of Indian descent and Balinska is mixed-race.
🎉🎉🎉It’s my birthday! So I’m gonna unashamedly post a picture of myself.
Ella posted about her new role on Instagram over the weekend.
Good Morning, Charlie. @charliesangels @sonypictures #exciteddoesntbegintodescribeit ✨
Charlie’s Angels follows three talented and tough women who work as private investigators for the unseen and mysterious millionaire Charlie Townsend.
The excellent Elizabeth Banks is set to star as Bosley, Charlie’s assistant, who works with the girls on their missions. The role was previously played by Bill Murray. Banks is also going to direct and produce the reboot with her production company, Brownstone Productions.
Banks herself is excited to be involved in a film that focuses on strong female characters:
Charlie’s Angels,’ for me, is one of the original brands to celebrate the empowered woman since its debut in the ‘70s. This film honors the legacy of Charles Townsend and his agency while introducing a new era of modern and global Angels.
No word yet on whether Beyoncé and/or Destiny’s Child will go on the soundtrack, but after the absolute tune that was Independent Woman, we’re holing out hope in our hearts.
The movie is set to be released in September 2019, and we cannot freaking wait.
