Hey everyone! This week’s PLL was especially juicy—not laden with A messages or many answers (like who or what is in that barrel,
), but it was full of real problems the girls are facing. And talk about mysterious characters! Mike, Talia, Hank Mahoney aka Cyrus…even Johnny, Spencer’s random houseguest, who I still don’t quite understand. I don’t know what to make of anyone anymore!
So on that note, here are my favorite moments from
Talia’s secret. I didn’t see this one coming, and it was a lot of fun when it’s just kind of dropped into the plot. I liked that it wasn’t a huge, big moment but instead a rather quiet one, and we end on Emily looking thoroughly confused. I don’t know where “Tamily” is going to go—I still ship Paily, personally—but I did like their cute conversation about their first kisses. Emily didn’t want to talk to Talia about hers because it was Ali, right? I remember exactly how it happened in the books, and I think it was pretty similar in the show…
Andrew Campbell to the rescue. So first off, Andrew Campbell looks totally different than I remember, but my diligent Twitter friends, who are much more observant watchers of the show than I am, assured me that it’s the same actor, just bigger and more grown-up. I love how Andrew appears on the Rosewood High scene in a pinch, especially when the girls have to do something school-related and need a resident brain. And hey, I didn’t need a math tutor in high school, but if I had, Andrew Campbell and his impressive biceps would have obviously been my first choice. I liked, too, how Andrew got involved in the caper, so willingly lending the girls his car! He was trying to be such a hero at the end with Cyrus. Problem was, the girls didn’t get their blood back. (And hello, why on earth would the girls do a blood drive? With A at large, that’s just asking for trouble.)
Cyrus/ Hank Mahoney. I didn’t see the Cyrus angle coming either, and I still don’t know what Mike’s up to. I want to think it isn’t part of some evil Ali scheme but instead something having to do with honoring Mona…though I have no idea how. I mean, it’s Mike. Maybe what happened in the books is clouding my judgment, but he’s a good guy, isn’t he? I’m thinking this is a big mislead, but maybe it will end up giving us a clue as to what’s
going on. (And who likes those gumdrops? Cyrus? Are they really gumdrops at all?)
Hanna and her deadbeat dad. I don’t care what Ashley and Tom came up with in their divorce agreement, but if dad has a good financial year, wouldn’t you think he’d use some of his extra cash to, oh, I don’t know, pay his daughter’s freshman tuition? That part about paying for Kate to go to Dartmouth was especially cold. I always get excited when the show writers use motifs from the book in the show—Hanna vs. her dad was always a big one. At the same time, I felt so sad for Hanna when I wrote those chapters. She tried so hard to impress her dad again and again, and it never worked. Hopefully she writes him off forever, as she pretty much does in the books. And what are we thinking—is she going to have to do a beauty pageant to pay for school, swimsuit competition and all? I wonder what her talent will be…
That’s it for this week! What were your favorite scenes? What parts made you crazy? What are your theories? I’d love to hear it all—follow me at @sarabooks or check me out at sarabooks on Snapchat. Kisses!
