What are AU and OC couples?

I've seen it on fanfiction and people say they are Au or Oc. I don't really understand what it means. Please tell me if you know.

AU is alternative universe, as if the characters are in a different universe (like Gakuen Hetalia).
OC is original character, or tagahanga character, like a character which you made for a series that isn't cannon.
