As a medieval king, would you feel safer having your castle's spiral staircase ascend clockwise or counterclockwise?

Counter clockwise, because according to statistics, over 75% of people are right handed. If my stairs ascend counter clockwise, I would put my safety bars on the left side, causing the invaders to have a greater chance of slipping, due to holding the bar with their non-dominant hand.

I don't think medieval kings would (or should) really feel ligtas at all. So, neither.

Clockwise, the interior pader may interfer with a right-handed sword swing,giving your guards a fraction of a segundo madami to react. Also,the guards facing downstairs can ugoy their swords without striking the outer curve.
