planned Weekend Update spinoff has landed a formal series order — and a somewhat surprising launch date.

Confirming a report from February, the Peacock network announced Tuesday that it has handed a four-episode order for 

‘s venerable Weekend Update segment, to launch Thursday, Aug. 10 at 9/8c.

I can barely get through W.U. when it’s on once a week. This is gonna be a one and done season.

When Trump stops doing and saying things that deserve to be mocked, I’ll agree with you. If you don’t like it, don’t watch SNL and stick to Fox News.

Nothing except lie to win an election he didn’t want. Now, he is the person most responsible for any and all govt interactions with the American people. So what he did/is doing to people is taking them for a ride up spit creek with little in the way of paddles.

You’re actually part of the majority, sadly there’s a really powerful minority of people that love them and gave them a freaking show.

I miss Jane Curtin and Dan Akyroyd on Weekend Update. Their stuff was hilarious!

First of all, this is airing on Thursday, not Saturday. And also, SNL has their highest ratings in years. But you’re right, nobody watches…

I hope they will satire more of the news in August than they currently do on Saturdays.

Right now Late Night with Seth Meyers has more news satire in the first 3 minutes of the show opening than all 15 minutes of SNL.

Having someone on the news segment and not doing anything on the news is a skit that belongs on in the regular part of the show. Update shouldn’t be a dumping ground to get cast members on the air when they can’t put them anywhere else in the show.

Not that SNL is filthy by any means, but will the primetime version of WU need to be sanitized at all by airing at 9pm on network TV? Most of their competition, content wise, airs later, does it not? Also, will it be live or pre-recorded? Assuming not live, but it’s an SNL property after all…

So excited about the news. Colin and Michael should make prime time TV funny again.

Can we have Tina Fey and Amy Poehler host instead of those two boring guys? Weekend Update used to be the best part of SNL, now it’s the point in the show where I turn off the tv and go to bed.

Just as long as they bring Leslie Jones back every week to shameless flirt with Colin (aka her ‘Honey Bunches of Jost’), then we’re good.

Sweet, guess you should all be thanking President Trump. His election has given SNL and co brand new life. Please try to be less mean-spirited and “liberal” and more humorous. I long for good comedy without the hysteria.

Only doing this because of the ratings bump they’ve gotten from Alec Baldwin. Once he stops doing Trump the ratings are going to go back down & they won’t be able to support the 30 Min Weekend Update. Plus what if the current hosts decide to leave. This won’t last long like the last time they did this.

LOVE this!!! Loved the election specials, & always find myself wishing they would have something resembling “SNL” to cover the things that happen (including with President & other usual “SNL” targets) over their usual Summer break.

It’s not their fault they only have 2 watchable African-Americans in the cast (both male)! Heck, before he became the standby reliable, Kenan admitted on talk shows he & Jay were not added despite multiple auditions until Tim Meadows & others left the cast! (That’s why this President nor the last have been believably portrayed by regularly-appearing cast members.)

He couldn’t even survive with a show named after him (simultaneously the reason it hired him, & both of those being reasons it failed).

My favorite joke this weekend?! When one of them said something to/about the other! (Proves it’s live, unlike the fake ads & pre-tapes like Lonely Island.)

I’ve never seen Weekend Update since…Dennis Miller maybe?
