In episode 8x21 "The Great Escapist" , how come the demons who looked like Dean and Sam didn't react to the holy water that Kevin shot at them?

The entire scenario was set up sa pamamagitan ng Crowley. There could have been ordinary water in the water pistol, not holy water. Or the entire thing could have been an illusion.
