uy Guys, stop worrying! Things happen for a reason!
“I’m not ageing?”
Jacob nodded. I looked at Edward who was still giving Jacob death stares. How could I be so stupid? How could I think that I would ever live happily ever after with Edward? He was a freaking vampire for Christ sake! I didn’t need Jacob to tell me the venom wasn’t stopping me getting older, I could have told myself that. Whenever I had looked in the mirror I could see another sign that I was getting nearer and nearer to seventeen and I knew Edward could see this too. He isn’t that brilliant at disguising his thoughts.
“Charlie’s in the kitchen, Jacob.” I pushed Jacob towards the kitchen. “He’s expecting you so don’t keep him waiting.”
Jacob nodded again and speedily walked to the kitchen. I would too under Edward’s glare. I smacked Edward’s arm and he finally looked at me.
“Are you angry?” he asked. His eyes were steadily getting darker and darker. The guy needed to hunt but I knew he wouldn’t leave me now. Great. Loren really knew when to pick a time to attack.
“No,” I sighed. “Just sort of disappointed.”
I wasn’t angry that he hadn’t told me. I felt sort of grateful that he didn’t. He let me live in the little bubble of an alternate reality where we could be young forever and together. He was just protecting me really.
“I guess I have disappointed you,” he said, looking down at his shoes. “I didn’t tell you the truth and I’m sorry.”
“No, I’m not disappointed at you. I’m disappointed that I won’t be sixteen forever. Officially, I am seventeen and getting older.”
I walked away from him and back into the living-room. I knew this wasn’t really the time to worry about getting older, seeing as a guy was bent on killing me and Charlie but I couldn’t help it. A taon nakaraan I thought I was going to live forever with Edward but now it seemed the venom wasn’t working. Could that happen? One araw the venom works and the susunod it doesn’t?
I threw myself onto the sofa and buried my head under a cushion. I heard Edward’s light footsteps follow me. He pulled the cushion off my head and sat me up.
“Carlisle did tell you that he doesn’t know exactly how the venom will work,” he told me. “He can only guess.”
“I know,” I sighed again. “But it was fun thinking I was sixteen forever. I mean, we could have been teenagers for all of eternity together.”
“You know I don’t care how old you are.”
“Does Carlisle know I’m ageing?”
Edward nodded. “I told him as soon as I noticed. He thinks that the venom is working with your body. It hasn’t nagyelo you like it has with us. It’s being quite nice to you actually. It’s letting your body grow properly and Carlisle thinks it will let you age until you’re eighteen and then you will be nagyelo for eternity as a teenager with me.”
“How certain is he of this?” I asked, fearing the worst.
“Ninety five percent.”
“That’s not bad. It’s better than nothing.”
Edward hugged me, crushing me to his marble chest.
“How can you be so understanding?” he murmured in my ear.
“I get it from you,” I whispered back.
Mitchell’s POV
It was strange, sitting at Charlie’s kusina table, planning on how to defeat my father. If it wasn’t for Charlie’s grandmother, it would have been quite easy. We could have just stripped him of his abilities but that’s already been done. The only other option I could think of is to kill him but Charlie is against that.
“I don’t want to kill him,” Charlie said. “Even though he would kill me and Kayla without a segundo thought I do not wish to harm him.”
I understood. Charlie was a very gentle man even though he can be quite psychotic at times. It wasn’t his nature to kill anyone even malevolent beings like Loren.
Charlie’s plan was to gather any Azdis that he could find and some mga lobo that he knew plus the human boy’s family and capture Loren. We would need all these people because I wasn’t the only Jenzi with abilities that he used. Once we captured Loren we would make him take a Jenztrythic Promise. It was an unbreakable oath, basically. I was supposed to make him promise not to harm Michaela at all and that included sending anyone else to do it too. I wondered where Charlie’s protection came into this promise.
“See,” Charlie said. “After that, Kayla is ligtas and we can live peacefully again.”
“But what about you?” I asked him. “There is nothing here in this promise about your protection.”
“It doesn’t matter about me,” Charlie said, dismissively. “As long as Kayla is safe.”
“You are too unselfish at times, Charles,” I said.
He smiled at me. It had been a while since I had seen this man smile. So much hardship had fallen on him that at one point I thought he had forgotten how to smile.
“Jacob’s here,” Charlie announced, picking up the pieces of paper we had used.
“Jacob?”
“He’s on of the mga lobo I was telling you about.” He handed all the papers to me and I put them in my pocket.
“About the wolves,” I said. “Are they trained?”
“Trained?” Charlie looked at me confused.
“Trained, yes. I don’t want a bunch of Aso running around ruining our plan.”
Charlie laughed then. He laughed so much that tears streamed down his face. I didn’t find any of what I had sinabi remotely funny. I thought was I sinabi was rather a serious.
“You think that the mga lobo are actual dogs?” Charlie sinabi through his laughter. He wiped his eyes with the back of his hand. “They aren’t real wolves, Mitchell.”
“Then what are they?”
He stopped laughing and looked at me seriously.
“The mga lobo are a tribe of Native Americans. They’re called the Quileutes. They transform into mga lobo whenever they need to. It’s something that is passed down through generations. Their great ancestors were mga lobo apparently.”
“So they’re shape-shifters?”
“You could say that.”
That was helpful. So, we had a couple of powerful Azdis, some big mga lobo and a bunch of humans. I don’t think the humans are going to be much help.
“The Cullens aren’t humans,” Charlie explained. “They’re vampires.”
“Vampires!” I exclaimed. “I thought they were a myth!”
“No, they aren’t a myth,” Charlie said, grudgingly. “I wish they were a myth, though.”
“So Michaela’s boyfriend is a vampire?”
“Don’t rub it in, Mitchell.”
“No wonder she is so attached to him.”
“You would think it was because of his ‘beauty’ and such but no. She actually does pag-ibig him.”
I could tell Charlie wasn’t happy about this. His face and tone of voice sinabi it all. Poor Charlie, as if Loren and I weren’t enough to deal with he also had Bampira as well.
“Maybe it will all blow over,” I suggested. “It could be just a phase.”
“I wish it was, Mitchell, really but he just asked her to marry him.”
“Ouch. Did she agree?”
“I don’t know. You and Loren burst in before she could answer. But then she and Edward are telepathic so she could say yes to him that way.”
“Yes, she did mention to me that she could read minds but nothing about the boy.”
“Vampires sometimes gain special abilities when they are changed.” Charlie sighed heavily.
He really didn’t like Edward.
“No, Edward’s a great guy,” Charlie said, quickly. “I don’t hate him at all. It’s just...I’m worried that he might hurt her. My family aren’t very good when it comes to vampire venom, it kills us.”
“I see,” I said. “You think Edward might turn her into a vampire.”
“No he won’t, I told Kayla what happens when she’s bitten.”
“So then he won’t hurt her, will he?” I said. “If he won’t bite her, then what else might kill her? He is very gentle with her, Charles, I’ve seen that.”
“It’s who he is,” Charlie explained. “Vampires talk to other Bampira and sometimes meet up, just like humans. If other vampires, not nice ones like Edward, were to see Kayla then who knows what could happen.”
I finally understood why Charlie disliked the pairing of Edward and Kayla. It wasn’t because he hated Edward himself but rather who he was. Bampira aren’t very popular amongst human and even madami so among Azdis. It isn’t uncommon for Charlie to dislike them.
“Hey, Charlie.”
A young, Native American boy had walked into the kitchen. He was very tall and muscular yet he looked no older than sixteen or seventeen.
“Jacob, what took you so long to walk from the door to the kitchen?” Charlie said, playfully scolding him.
“Got talking to Kayla and Edward,” Jacob answered, looking not at Charlie but the table.
“Well, you’re here now,” Charlie said.
Jacob sat down at the mesa susunod to Charlie and watched me.
“Let’s go over the plan for Jacob, eh Mitchell?”
“I’m not ageing?”
Jacob nodded. I looked at Edward who was still giving Jacob death stares. How could I be so stupid? How could I think that I would ever live happily ever after with Edward? As I was going tahanan I suddenly was hit sa pamamagitan ng the reality that I really was going to be a mother... a mom at last.
A mother wow... I thought to myself. I'm going to be responsible for someone. I shook that thought out of my head quickly, since I had always been a clutz like my mom. I mean what if I accidently hurt my unborn baby, I thought to myself before quickly shaking that thought off too.
It was 6 a.m. and I had just awoken to discover Jacob sitting at the foot of my bed. Jacob... I began- I need to tell you something I'm...I'm... Pregnant. "Thats great", he replied to me reaching up to stroke my growing stomach. "How far along are you?", he asks me. "I'm 3 months now Jake but... the baby's not yours.", I tell him... he slaps me and gathers all his things and bolts out the door leaving me to face reality i]alone.[/i]
