An oras or so later, the medical wing was filled with bustling JLAers. The Young Justice team sat outside in the “waiting room”. Shouts rang out and beeps could be heard from several different locations. Every one was filled with worry and fear. Tension was clearly inside the mountain and there was too much activity to think quietly. Eventually, Batman exited. He walked towards the team, mainly his son. His face was grim.
“Is she going to be okay?” Robin asked.
“Eventually. But not for a few weeks. Several of her lungs were punctured, multiple fractures, blood loss, and a very high chance of concussion.”
“And she'll be okay?”
“In time.”
“But she can't go on missions!” Megan exclaimed. “And we can't be here for her every segundo of the day! She's going to need constant care!”
“Which is why I've arranged for her to stay with Robin and myself.”
“Is that safe?”
Batman raised his eyebrows and silenced the speedster.
“And...what's going to happen in the mean time?” Artemis asked.
“With.”
“With the team. Becca's pretty useful and we'll need her on some missions. At least her equipment. You know, her vials and safety precautions.”
“She will wake in the susunod hour. I will ask her is she has any problem with you taking control of her utility belt. But until then, there is no need to worry. And we know who did this and why. They will be dealt with quickly and quietly. When drugged, Shade tells the truth. We've learned that very quickly.”
“Will we get to see her?”
“When she wakes.” Batman looked at his protege. “I will inform you when she does.”
Robin nodded as his mentor walked away, sinking back into his seat. He rested his head in his shaking hands, releasing a sigh of relief.
“Glad that's over,” he admitted.
“Batman sinabi he knew who did it,” Artemis commented. “So why didn't he tell us?”
“Maybe it's a JLA thing,” Wally suggested shrugging.
“Or maybe it doesn't really matter. Becca's going to be okay.”
“You guys are right. I'm just being paranoid.”
“Eh. You may have picked up a little too much from Robin,” Wally teased.
A quick 'zoom' was heard down the hall. A segundo later, Flash stood in front of them.
“Becca's up.” He looked at Robin. “She's asking for you.”
“Okay. Are we all allowed in?”
“One at a time. Sorry.”
Robin nodded and followed the Flash to Becca's room. He entered. Becca was lying in bed, bandages around her and various casts healing her fractured bones. Her eye was black and her head was wrapped in a gauze strip. She smiled tiredly when he entered.
“Hey,” she greeted.
“Hi. How you feeling, love?” Robin asked, crouching to look in her eyes.
“Sore. But you know what would make me feel better?”
“Hmmm?”
“If you took your mask off.”
“Becca.”
“Please Robin? For me?”
Even banged up and hurting, Becca's brown tuta dog eyes had the desired effect. With a defeated sigh, Robin removed his mask. Becca smiled tenderly.
“Thank you. It helps to see the real you.”
“Hm. I wish I could be this way all the time.”
“So talk to Batman. Please. I hate seeing you have to be all....in disguise.”
“And I hate seeing you all hurt.”
They fell silent, each with their own thoughts. Becca turned to look back at Robin. She stared in his blue eyes, a mixture of fear and hope in hers.
“Robin...we aren't going to....loose each other because of this. Right?”
“Of course not.”
“Good. I don't want to loose you; you're the best thing that's ever happened to me.”
“Same here. If I Nawawala you...I might do something really stupid. madami than Wally stupid. And these fights we've been having? They seem too planned to be real. I don't think we have anything to worry about Becca love. Trust me.”
“I do.”
Robin narrowed his eyes, searching Becca's face.
“You're worried.”
“Yes. What about Wonder Girl?”
“What about her Bec?”
“Well...what are we going to do? I don't think she should be on the team.”
“Because you don't like her?”
Becca held her tongue, refusing to speak. It was odd for her to kabibe up but there was always a good reason. Right?
“What's wrong?” Robin asked.
“Nothing. I'm just thinking.”
“Liar.”
“No. I really am thinking. Just not about your question.”
“What are you thinking about?”
“Nothing interesting.”
“...”
“It's true.”
“...”
“Nothing of interest to anyone but me. Cause I'm weird like that.”
“...”
“Ugh! Fine! I was thinking about the stupid fanfic couples I told you guys about.”
“Why?”
“I don't know. I guess I was trying to figure out what it would be like. For you guys to have that kind of interaction I mean.”
“You are so weird.”
“I know.”
“But I pag-ibig you.”
“I pag-ibig you too.”
Becca reached her hand up and cupped Robin's cheek. He instinctively reaches up to hold it there. After a minuto or two, Becca brings her hand to the back of Robin's head. She pulls him down and their lips meet in perfect unison. But something nags at the back of Becca's head. Something Cassie had sinabi earlier. No matter what happens to me, your life is only short lived...
