kristyanismo Tanong

Why do you believe?

I'm just wondering, as an atheist, why do you all believe in God?

Dearheart said:
I believe in God for several reasons that would take too long to type out, but the main two reasons are 1) because I've experienced Him myself, and 2) life doesn't make sense without Him in the picture.

I'm not sure if evolution is true or not, and I honestly don't care. But I do know that science can only take you so far. It sagot a lot of "how" questions, but not the "why" questions. That's where God comes in.

You could see evolution as a series of random, lucky coincidences and believe that this whole world somehow came together all sa pamamagitan ng itself. But then, what would be the point of everything? If we're merely evolved mga hayop and the ultimate goal is surviving and evolving even more, then what about morality or the basic concepts of Right and Wrong? Are they relative, things that society just accepts as "right" and "wrong"? If so, what's the point? Or are they absolute? If so, what makes them absolute?

Or, you could see evolution as the work of a Designer or Creator. Someone who's putting all the puzzle pieces together to form a bigger picture. Someone who has a greater purpose for each atom and molecule, every cell, every star, every life. Someone who laid down all the laws of science and the rules of humanity at the very beginning. Someone who wants us to find Him and know Him through the evidence in His handiwork. The shadow proves the sunshine. The creation proves the Creator.

And I think everyone at some point has experienced that strange, indescribable longing for something more, something greater than what we know...like you're homesick for a tahanan you've never known. That longing is a very deep part of who we all are as human beings, and pretending it isn't there won't make it go away. Needs and desires exist because there are things designed to fulfill them. Where there is hunger, there is food. Where there is thirst, there is water. Where there is loneliness, there is love. The fact that I long for something beyond what I see is yet madami proof to me that He exists. Everyone has a God-shaped hole in their hearts, and only He can fill it.

C. S. Lewis, may-akda of The Chronicles of Narnia, talked about that a lot in his other books. He used to be a hard-core atheist, until God pwned him with his own logic. xD I highly recommend you check some of them out, especially Mere Christianity and The Screwtape Letters. Lewis was an expert in Christian apologetics, and he could explain everything to you better than I ever could. (No, I'm not expecting you to convert after pagbaba them or anything lol. I just think you'd find them interesting.) ^__^

Thanks, this did help with my curiousity:) I actually have read some of C.S. Lewis in a book that was set up to be like a pagtatalo between him and Sigmund Freud. And that brings me around to comment on this: "I think everyone at some point... things designed to fulfill them." This is where I believe the need for God stemmed from. I think that the child in us yearned for a parental figure, and God was imagined to fulfill that need. (Note that I am just sharing my own opinion, and that I do completely respect yours.) Well, thanks again=]

Well besides the fact that I was brought up believing He's real I have my own reasons aswell.

One of the big things for me is just the earth its self. I don't know about you but I've never known anyone who can make trees, flowers, mountains, fish, cows, etc. which leads me to believe that there is a higher being. I know most people will say "Evolution!" but evolution is nothing but hogwash. I mean seriously there was nothing then all of a sudden there was an electrical storm that generated certain atoms causing everything we have today.....now just think about that. It contradics its self! Evolutionist (aka;Darwinist) say that everything evolved well if that were true then when we started to transform from being a monkey we'd have to change extremely fast. Our bodies wouldn't be able to withstand all that physical and mental changes if we changed gradually...over time if you will. Something else Evolution teaches is that every land creature was once an ocean creature and that everything crawled up out the ocean and changed into whatever it was destined to be. If that were true we'd all have to have grown legs, lungs, Nawawala our fins, Nawawala our gills, and so many other things. Once again our bodies can't withstand that. We'd of either died or had to change very fast, but see according to evolution we changed gradually so thats another contridictory.

Creation and God actually makes sence. God has always been, He has never had a beginning and will never have an end. He spoke the world into exsistance along with the other plants and galaxies and so on an so forth. When God made the world He made it without sin but when the first woman and man sinned (Eve & Adam) God cast a curse on the earth and humans. But this was all according to God's plan, He knew man would sin when He put us here and He allowed so that His son Hesus could come and save His people. And His people are anyone and everyone who believes on Him.

So hopefully this was a good answer and you got why I believe.( =

× I do see your point, sort of. What I don't understand is what you mean sa pamamagitan ng saying that our bodies wouldn't be able to withstand the changes of evolution. It's gradual enough that it took millions of years, so we wouldn't have noticed.

Well see say we all did crawl out the waters and develop lungs. We'd first have to lose our gills so that we could breathe on land. Loosing our gills and growing lungs according to evolution takes millions of years but if this changing of how we breathe really happened we'd have to change really fast as not to die from suffocation. You know what I mean? If some stages of our development didn't happen quickly we'd have died but according to evolution every stage of our development took thousands to millions of years.

i agree with abilie. evolution wouold not be likely without the existence of a supernatural force to begin its process.

The reason why I believe in God and His Son Hesus Christ is that I want to be saved when I die or the end of the world comes. And I've experienced some paranormal things, like filled with Holy Spirit, have seen dreams where God is with me ipinapakita things that might happen in near future and He answered in my tanong about my daydream what I'm dreaming even now.

I grew up going to church. As that strong foundation settled within me I realized that all that I learned is true. The truth of the pag-ibig of God is deep within the believers. It's kinda hard to explain. A deepness that goes to and embeds itself into ones soul/spirit. I have no doubt that God is real! Another thought; just look around you...what do you see? Trees, flowers, insects, animals, billions of different living things. How did they get here? From one organism that came out of the sea? I think not! For those who do not believe I feel sadness for them. The most important thing is that you will be judge sa pamamagitan ng God in the end. If you do not believe, do think He will let you go to Heaven? And another thought, without God what hope do you have? Why go through this hard life knowing that there is nothing after the death of our bodies.
I almost forgot to say that one special araw I was touched sa pamamagitan ng God. There is no words in the human language to express the feeling! I have no doubt of Almighty loving God ♥
