why should they be? they don't mention anything about religion as far as i'm consered. they are just fiction movies. I don't know about twilight but HP has a lot similarities with christianity. there's an article about that somewhere in this spot. anyway, as far as they don't worship the devil and evil in general, i don't find them anti-christian.

Absolutely not. I have many issues with Twilight, but being anti-Christian is not one of them.

In fact, the argument can (link) made in favor of Harry Potter actually supporting Christian values and ideas. PLEASE click on the link, it's a very enlightening read and you'll learn a lot.

Absolutely NOT. They're both just purely entertainment. Nowhere do I see either franchises promoting anything anti-Christian, pro-Satan, or mentioning anything religious. Yes in the Bible it warns us of things such as witch craft, false teachers/*palm readers*, etc., but still.

This is FICTION. Not real. Anyone taking anything from these movies/books to their real lives should stay away from this type of stuff, but I still don't get the big deal. It's like saying we shouldn't watch Halloweentown, since it involves magic, or the Little Vampire, which involves vampirism. Big deal. Still fiction.

No offense, but this is a bit overboard. I know & am aware that we should be careful to not get sucked into certain things we watch or listen to, but there's nothing wrong with something that's entirely meant just for entertainment. JMO.

I think that's something that each Christian must figure out for him (or her) self, but I personally don't think so at all.

I can only say that I feel very sorry for people who automatically buy into the idea that the books are evil without bothering to check the series out for themselves. Different people have different convictions and I completely get that. If someone reads one of the books and is truly offended by it, that's fine - they should stay away from the series altogether. I can understand why that would happen, because the Bible does clearly and repeatedly say to stay away from witchcraft, and I agree with that 100%. The reason I can enjoy the series with a clear conscience is because none of the "witchcraft" in the books is real. It's not a "how to learn witchcraft" opportunity. JK Rowling made all the spells and potions up herself. There's no calling upon Satan or praying to pagan gods involved. It's a fictional sort of witchcraft that has absolutely no basis in reality. Because of that, I don't consider it to be the kind of witchcraft the Bible is speaking of.

Like all great stories, the main message it ultimately promotes is the importance of love, which of course, is what Christianity and following Jesus is all about. So no, I don't find it anti-Christian in the least.

As for Twilight, I don't find it anti-Christian either, but man do I wish I could get back the hours of my life I wasted reading it! :D

Love Harry Potter, dislike Twilight, but neither are anti-Christian. Joanne Rowling (author of Harry Potter) was the only one in her family to attend church regularly, and Stephenie Meyer (author of Twilight) is a Mormon. Both series have Christian symbolism in them.

I would go so far as to say that Harry Potter is pro-christian. On asked about it in an interview, JK Rowling admitted something like "No, not Christian undertones, but overtones". The books have an incredible amount of symbolism in them- for example, Harry sacrificed himself for the people, and they were protected by his sacrifice. He then "resurrected". Even the in-between place he went to after his "death" was referred to as "Kings Cross". Besides that, it teaches so much about the values of love.

I am against Twilight for other reasons, but it is not anti-christian.

And TWILIGHT(I loathe it by the way) is a very good example for religious manipulation in children's literature....the vampires don't have sex before marriage....I couldn't stop laughing!!!

As much as I hate Twilight, it WAS written by a Mormon. I'm a Mormon too, but I don't care for Stephenie Meyer. She lives in a fantasy, not to mention writes horribly.

As for Harry Potter, I LOVE it! Best books ever written ;)

They aren't. I personally love the article Cinders linked to, showing the Christian themes and the distinguishing of HP magic and the real-world occult stuff. My parents wouldn't let me read or watch Harry Potter until just this January, because they were wanting me to know the difference between the fantasy and reality of wizardry and witchcraft. Also, they read something at Focus on the Family about HP.

As for Twilight, I have no interest in it and wish to not be part of it. To me, from what I've heard, it's just a badly written vampire love story with a werewolf in it.

On one hand I take television as just that entertainment, when people get all serious and make cults out of it then it gets weird. My mother always said "Don't add God to an equation if he was never a variable to begin with"

You're either saying 1) obsessions are bad, in which case all television and books and foods which a person has an obsession with are bad, or 2) Harry Potter fans get into witchcraft etc... blatantly false, or 3) other?

^"obsessions are bad"
umm yeah

"Harry Potter fans get into witchcraft etc... blatantly false"
now that is false, I may not stereotype Harry Potter fans with witchcraft ( its just a movie) but to say no one has "dabbled" in it is the same as saying no one ever gets influenced from playing certain games, it sometimes happens denial won't help.

point anything taken pass what it is intended for can be negative

Harry Potter is almost as far from anti Christian as you can possibly be. There are so many Christian messages in the Harry Potter saga that I can't count them on both fingers

Re: Harry Potter getting people into witchcraft: I've actually met people who've looked into witchcraft because of Harry Potter (And Charmed, and Practical Magic, and Buffy). However, majority of the time they find out that the witchcraft in media, and actual witchcraft are so vastly different that they end up dropping it.

Just thought I'd share.

actually, as i was reading the last harry potter, i started to think of jesus's death. both sacrificed themselves to save those they loved, came back and defeated their enemy(granted with Jesus he has yet to do so). then i read 1 corinthians 13:4-7, which talks about love. in verse 7, always is mentioned at least 3 times (NIV) and it made me wonder if that's where JK Rowling got Severus's famous line.

To be Anti-Christian does not mean it is pro-satan in some blatent way, it means it is against sentiment, dogma, the word. I put YES -even if I enjoyed the movies, because "embracing eternal damnation" in that immortal-ish fate of a vampire if destroyed is about your soul. Bella had a choice. "Atheist" or secular beliefs do not nessicarily teach "BAD" behaviors anymore than a Christian has to automatically teach their children "good" -there are some BAD so-called Christians, Just because something is not wholy Christian does NOT mean it does not TEACH GOOD values or principles stuck in there. You think some non-Christian people are bad to their children or have no redeeming good qualities? I am a Christian who takes stuff very seriously, so yeah, hate or disagree if you like, because I am not of the "popular" belief here & disagree with most of you, but I am a Christian & that is how I feel in answer. I don't believe Christians should be haters.

So wait. If I was a Christian, does that mean I cannot WRITE stories with magic and witchcraft in it because it's apparently satanic? In that case, excuse me, I gotta go die somewhere.
