There\'s no better feeling than finding a brand new fanfic that you instantly become obsessed with, but as anyone who reads it on the regular will know, that\'s really not an easy task.

Stories that might start out alright often descend into something totally ridic, and to find one hidden internet gem, you have to wade through a shedload of cheesy, predictable romance, beyond weird fantasies and a whole lot of badly written smut.

So instead of you having to trawl through the depths of the fanfic world, we thought we\'d start helping out a bit, and every month we\'re gonna be bringing you 10 brill titles for various fandoms that are actually worth reading.

This January we\'re kicking off with One Direction, so if you wanna indulge in your guilty pleasure of 1D AUs, you\'ve come to the right place.

Any other bonus deets?: Aesthetics is still a work in progress, and it\'s always exciting when you get the email to say a new chapter is up, and it\'s a good one if you wanna get a little bit steamy, ya cheeky thang.

Who does it focus on?: Harry Styles, but they\'re all in there.

Any other bonus deets?: A SUPER relatable main character that you\'ll connect with instantly, plus it was a Wattpad featured story so you know it\'s gonna be good.

This was the challenge Lane faced. To find a subject that embodied this topic, something captivating, enticing, something that would draw the audience in. And be able to justify her choice.

By a random meeting, a simple click of a camera, Harry became that choice. His eyes were what drew her in, the knowledge that the eyes were the gateway to the soul, and the guardians of ones secrets. But he wasn\'t going to give in her to wishes easily, and certainly wasn\'t going to let her in.

5. Illegally Yours by whammystyles (read it on Wattpad HERE)

What type of story is it?: Your classic kinda rom com

Any other bonus deets?: This one will get you laughing SO HARD, the comments section is full of people re-reading for the second or third time.

She was this artsy and eccentric girl who was pathetically obsessed with him, but he had no idea. When she saves him from an accident and he loses his memory, she ends up doing the craziest thing she could ever do. Pretend to be his wife.

What type of story is it?: Gripping, heartwarming, sometimes dark but some lovely romance

Any other bonus deets?: Over 56 MILLION reads on Wattpad, which kinda speaks for itself. It\'s consistently in the Top 50 of fanfiction too, and a bit of a fan favourite.

They say you shouldn\'t run from your problems, but Avery Holmes and Niall Horan are doing just that. They ironically find themselves fleeing from an unfortunate turn of events in the same place, for scarily similar reasons. They\'re both looking for shelter from the storm, and they\'re both going to find out that they\'ll be getting just the opposite of what they\'re looking for. But fate has a funny way of working out, doesn\'t it?

7. Eight Cakes and Two Eulogies by Yesllliam (read it on Wattpad HERE)

What type of story is this one?: Drama, romance, slash fiction

Who does it focus on?: Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson

Any other bonus deets?: One for all you Larries in the house because we couldn\'t leave you out, could we? Someone\'s also made a matching soundtrack for this one, which is pretty cool.

The Honourable Louis Tomlinson, heir to the Earldom of Colbury and the multi-billion pound family business, RLA Enterprises, often feels under pressure to conform to the expectations of those around him. The only problem is, after his last disastrous relationship, seven years ago, he has little desire to get intimate with another woman, let alone marry one. Of course, Harry, his famous actor of a best friend, always likes to pip in that he is free to marry him and while Louis loves him to pieces, the joke is getting a bit old now.

What type of story is this one?: Boy meets girl but not your average

Any other bonus deets? Not the easiest subject matter to swallow, but so well written and funny and sad and enticing all at once that you\'ll have to keep reading.

After admittedly the world\'s crappiest suicide attempt, eighteen year old Charlie Hogan cannot be trusted to be home alone and is shipped across the country to stay with an absentee, dead beat dad in Florida. And then there\'s this mixed up boy- the kind who shoots lightning bolts up your spine, right into your skull- who\'s about to screw with Charlie\'s whole world.

Forget everything you know about boy meets girl, Electro is a hot wet soup of gender identity, Dr Freud, Dr Seuss, interminable sexual obsession and prosthetic penises...

What type of story is this one?: Easy to read, cute, romance

Any other bonus deets?: Loads of this one is written as though it\'s Twitter messages at the beginning, so it\'s easy to read and gradually opens up into a well written romance.

She was @Anonymous_, he was @whocares_. He tweeted lyrics, she tweeted quotes. He used his Twitter account to hide from his populatiry, she used her Twitter account to hide from reality. They both used Twitter to communicate with each other, neither of them knew exactly who tehy were contacting. The depressed girl and the famous boy; not exactly a match made in Heaven. He\'s saving her and she\'s saving him - who said Twitter couldn\'t save lives?

What type of story is this one?: Short story, deep and meaningful, dark but beautiful

Any other bonus deets?: The writing is BEAUTIFUL and you only have to glance at the comments to see how many people have been crying while reading. It\'ll hit you right where it hurts.

He was untouchable. Adored by millions, it was nearly impossible to break through the mass barrier and get to him. She spent her days locked away in her bedroom while he travelled across the world... 

It was just so hard to love someone through pixels.
