Hello, everybody. I feel that it is high time we have a formal discussion on the new cover. After all, when we saw the three lines that said, "Coming Fall 2011, The bayani of Olympus Book 2, The Son of Neptune," we freaked out. So, now that there is an actual cover, there's a lot of stuff to go over.

At the tuktok is the trademark HoO band. Whatever. The sky isn't so much of a sky. To me, it looks somewhat...watery. Like an upside-down hurricane, crashing down on the pader of ice. If you look at the tuktok of the ice wall, sections of ice have carved ridges in them. It looks like the walls of a city. So some city gets destroyed. But it's not just a city; it's an icy city, so maybe it has something to do with Boreas/Aquilon or maybe even Khione. But that would be redundant, wouldn't it? But if you ask me, that is a city.

Now let's focus our attention to the boy in the middle. Most people have been saying that it's Percy and I've believed them...until now. So the first thing is that he's holding an eagle. If it were Percy, I'm guessing that Zeus would have made the eagle open its mouth and start pecking at him. After all, Zeus hates Percy. He's the son of his archenemy, made Zeus look like an idiot madami than twice, and practically spat in his face at the end of the Titan war. Also, the staff is gold. As in, Imperial Gold. Percy would never use anything except for Riptide, especially a Roman metal. It would feel wrong to him. Also, he's wet. Percy prefers to stay dry, except for when there's mortals around, but this boy is alone. Another thing, if Percy was ever having any trouble in the water (which this boy is definitely having), Poseidon probably would have sent help. Again, this boy is alone. One madami thing to prove that it is not Percy: his sando is, well, not exactly a rich purple, but it's definitely closer to purple than orange. Jason never took off his purple sando in TLH; he felt uncomfortable in the kahel one. I expect Percy would feel the same. Therefore, the boy in the middle is not Percy, and is probably not a son of Neptune, as he is wet and is holding an eagle. We can presume, however that he is Roman due to the metal he is using and the color of his shirt. This could very well be the mysterious Frank, proving that Frank is not the son of Neptune, either. If you ask me, the son of Neptune could be the seventh unknown member of the prophecy.

Next, we have to figure out what he's doing. This kid is obviously on a time-constrainted mission as a city is about to crash on him. He is covered in ice-water, so he must be freezing. The iceberg he is sitting on can be a very large amount of things. He can either be using it as a raft, trying to break it, or...I'm out. He's looking towards the side, not exactly directly at the chunk of ice. Therefore, we can presume he is not trying to break it. I think he's looking at the water. Maybe something is lying below it, something he needs to see. Maybe it's an object that was sunk when the city was destroyed.

I think that's enough. I'll just make a quick summary: In the background is a city being destroyed. In the center is a boy who is a Roman camper but not the son of Neptune who is using the chunk of ice below him as a balsa to try and recover an unidentified object below the water. Maybe. keyword being maybe. I think I'll actually put that in as a keyword.

Please feel free to counter and comment on anything I've said. I hope you've liked this. Ok. My fingers are cramping up. I was thinking of doing an analysis of the UK cover, but my brain is fried. Maybe another time in another article.

Athena, out.

Yes! I'm pretty sure I'm the first person to give an analysis of The House of Hades! *accomplished

So, to give you some sustenance for another year's wait, I've decided to analyze the book.

First of all, what the Hades was that ending? Literally. I'm pretty sure we all silently cried as we read it. Especially since the whole thing could've been prevented.

The most disturbing thing to me is a passage earlier in the book, on page 382. Percy is having a dream, and at the very end Gaea tells him "Enjoy Tartarus, my little pawn." Did she KNOW he was going to Tartarus? Or was it just an empty statement...
