Grell's gender I think is totally up to you. If calling them a girl makes you comfortable and happy, go for it. If calling them a boy does the same, go for it. If you take Grell seriously or you just see it as part of their jokey character, either is fine. I just take it as a matter of opinion, both sides have the right to take it which ever way they want. Boy, girl, or they; both sides can have good reasons for why they use what pronoun.

No, Grell is a girl. She's trans and calling her male is getting rid of representation and is extremely transphobic imo. It's not a matter of opinion when it's canon. I don't mean to argue, but honestly when it comes to Grell and her being a character I look up to (+ wow she is trans and that makes me happy there are few trans characters and her existing and being amazing and strong and everything makes me mega mega happy) I just,, really get passionate about her being respected. I know how it feels to get misgendered and hey even if she's fictional I don't really like seeing her like that either.

rinpana@ I completely understand and totally get it. But I just wish both sides could get the other. I really HATE throwing the phobia word around, so many people like to use it and just brand people as it. Over the littlest things. I've had people call me racist and sexist and tranphobic, just because I didn't want to read fanfics were they change a characters gender or how I didn't like fanart were a character's skin tone is different (black or white). So I don't like using that word, just because I know how it makes you feel to be called it.
I have seen many people give actually fine reasons for calling Grell a male, such as 'everyone else in the show does, even his closest friends' or 'Grell is the biggest jokey character, so I don't take him as seriously as I would another character saying it'. I refer to them as they/them/their, simply because the wiki does and all their profiles do, as well as many other articles and manga parts. Though when me and my sister are talking about the show, I will end up saying he a lot. Simple because I said it so many times and heard it so many times in the show, it is really hard to suddenly stop saying it.
Like if someone says to start calling an apple something else. You know? He will come out accidentally when I speak, but I use they when typing.

For real people, whether you are comfortable or believe in this sort of thing or not. I always make sure to use the pronoun people wish me to use. Or try super hard to do so, sometimes I can forget, but fix it right away. Fiction characters, I mean their are certain ones that even the characters in the show use the pronoun they use. So them people should definitely use the right one. Characters like Grell, which there isn't that many, I think it is fine to use what you want. Just because so many people can give so many different reasons why to use what word.

I just say if it makes you happy, go for it. Nobody is stopping you and no point in fighting about it. Nobody has to treat anyone like they are trash for it. #dontfight

Yeah I agree with the others on Grell. If you go onto the Kuroshitsuji wiki, it says on Grell's page that he likes to act like a girl towards others (Mostly Sebastian) but is a guy. Basically Grell is like a transgender grim reaper, or shinigami however you want to call him.
