Mahone was born in San Antonio, Texas. He first started posting bidyo on YouTube with his friend Alex Constancio in June 2010.[5] Music bidyo followed sa pamamagitan ng January 2011, and he began to build an online following. He has been called the "second coming of Justin Bieber".[6] when in October 2011, Mahone posted a video covering Justin Bieber's song "Mistletoe".[6][7] On August 28, 2012 Mahone announced that he had been officially signed to Chase/Universal Republic Records.[8] Mahone's first single "11:11" charted at #19 on the Billboard Heatseekers Songs chart. On June 5, 2012 Austin Mahone released a segundo single called "Say Somethin". The single did better than his first, charting at #34 on the Billboard Pop Songs chart.[9] On May 22, 2012 Mahone played at the first Q102 Springle Ball music concert. Soon after, he sang at the B96 SummerBash in Chicago[10] and on June 22, 2012, in New York City.

Mahone has a strong social media presence. He sells Skype sessions with his fans at $50 for a 10-minute call.[11] His mother explained that “we’ve changed the prices so many times because we wanted to be fair, we don’t want to gouge people, but the demand was so high.” Mahone's tagahanga base is dominated sa pamamagitan ng teenage females, called "mahomies".[5][6] Kara DioGuardi, who is involved in his career, sinabi of his online popularity: "He knows how to connect. Growing up, Mahone was influenced sa pamamagitan ng artists across multiple genres of music, including country singer George Strait. He is also a tagahanga of Taylor Swift, Flo Rida and Mariah Carey. Mahone taught himself drums, took gitara lessons for a taon and a half and “sang in the paliguan … until last taon when this girl on YouTube helped me with my breath control and taught me different warmups."[12] Mahone's fanbase have called themselves "Mahomies".
