I dislike Briley but even I will admit that Riley loved Buffy and he still does. He just wasn't the right fit for her

i think he loved her and still did when he came back in the episode AS YOU WERE , it was a shame buffy didn't feel the same .
maybe it would have worked later on in the series , who knows ?
