It seems to me like the spelling is logical, but somewhat inconsistent...
I personally believe it shouldn't be changed. Because people should learn how to spell words correctly. And if they don't, well, that's tough luck.
If a word can be spelt (yes, it's 'spelt') with an 'ou' such as moustache, (mustache) or colour (color) I prefer to spell it that way. Not sure why, really. I guess I just like it that way.
Our spelling may not always make sense - and varies - but it does provide a certain standardization. And anyways, we have the IPA to give us pronunciation of things. For example, whether it's "color" or "colour," it's always pronounced /kʌlər/, no matter how tempted I am to make it rhyme with velour.
I come form a country that spells words the way they hear them! Example: Cat, c is a c and K is a K! Why is C pronounced like a K? And sometimes C is pronounced like a C! Why is it spelled C-A-T not K-A-T? Like my name... People ask me why my name is spelled that way! Viktoriya not Victoria... It's because my name is Viktoriya it's not (Vistoria) Coming from Europe where things are actually spelled the the way the are HEARD! That is why spelling always been so complicated for me! That is what I think and if u have a problem with that the face it... Because I'm not gonna start a argument with you, you just trying to change my mind or argue! That happens 90% of the time on here!
C is pronounced like a K, and an S. if it wasn't pronounced like a K, it would just be...S. And you can thank the Ancient Greeks for that, that's where our alphabet comes from.
Again, if that's how your name's spelled, fine. But not everyone pronounces the same words the same way. It's like with the word deity. Some people say 'dee-uh-tee' and some say 'die-uh-tee'. But it's the same word, and spelt the same. And what if a person has an accent? In the Yiddish language, the letter W doesn't exist. So many people for whom Yiddish is their mother tongue, they pronounce W sounds as V when speaking English. Same can be said for other languages.
If I may, what country are you from, Viktoriya? I've never been to Europe :( but I know people who have. They've never mentioned anything about words being spelt exactly the way they're heard. As an American, I can say that Americans tend to pronounce things they way they're seen! France is pronounced "frons", but many Americans say "frans". Heehee, silly Americans.
If you have trouble spelling words, that's fine. Many people can have difficulties like that. But it's not a reason to go changing the whole English language at once.
