This is a movie I've been looking pasulong to rewatching for a while :) I pag-ibig the Disney Princess pelikula (except maybe Brave, still need to watch that again) but The Little Mermaid brings back so much nostalgia for me. This movie isn't number 1 on my paborito DP movie listahan but it's still one of my all-time paborito movies.

Today's rewatch: The Little Mermaid
Last time watched: 2017

How much did I like this movie as a kid?
I hope you're all comfortable because this is going to be a long one. When I was little mga sirena were my paborito thing and it was all because of The Little Mermaid. For the first few years of my life I could only watch the movie once every two weeks because that was when I was spending a weekend at my dad's house and he was the only one who had the vhs copy (it was the first released one too!). When The Little Mermaid was rereleased in theaters in the mid to late 90's, I was 5-7 years old and I don't think I had been to the pelikula before so it was a new experience for me and I didn't even know what we were seeing until the movie started, and I was so incredibly excited. After that my mom was able to get her own vhs copy of the movie and I was able to watch it whenever I wanted! And because I loved The Little Mermaid so much I had gotten a couple The Little Mermaid theme birthday cakes, I had an Ariel doll, a talking/singing Ariel mirror, Ariel and Eric barbies, an Ariel/Flounder unan (which I still have!) and in mine and sister's room at our dad's house he was somehow able to get cardboard cutouts of The Little Mermaid and decorated our walls with them so we could see our paborito mermaid as we fell asleep. I even got a picture with Ariel as a mermaid on my very first trip to Disneyland and I remember how happy I was to see her! When I was little I actually thought mga sirena were real (I was one of those kids who thought the stuff that happened in pelikula really happened) and I remember when I was 6 or 7 I was watching the movie and I sinabi to my older sister that I wanted to be a mermaid when I grew up...only to then be told bluntly that mga sirena weren't real.

Yeah, I still remember the heartbreak. I still loved mga sirena and I still loved the movie even after that disappointment. When I heard there was a sequel I was excited and of course my mom got me the movie the araw it came out and I loved it! And then when I heard that The Little Mermaid was getting another sequel I was, again, excited despite being 15 and deemed "too old" to be excited for something like that. I ended up being so very disappointed because I didn't think it was as good as Return to the Sea. I was so bummed out I rewatched the first two pelikula to "cleanse" myself. And OF COURSE in 2013 or 2014 when the Diamond Edition of The Little Mermaid came out I preordered it and not only got it the araw before it was actually released, I got a set of pictures from the movie (like Ariel in her iconic pag-awit on a rock while water splashes in the background, Ursula doing one of her famous evil looks, etc) that I somehow ended up losing after I moved out of my mom's house. But then in my late teens, early twenties I was hearing people like Lindsey Ellis hating on Ariel and the movie teaching girls it was okay to change for a man and I actually bought that for a while. I still feel so embarrassed for believing that for a while. I watched this movie every now and again but one rewatch that was important to me was the last time I watched The Little Mermaid in 2017. I had gotten the news recently that my dad was diagnosed with lung cancer. I lived far away from tahanan at the time so I wasn't able to see him at all and I was feeling so depressed. One night my husband asked me if I wanted to watch a movie after work and I could pick; The Little Mermaid was the first movie that came to mind. That night we watched the movie together and I felt closer to my dad, even tearing up a little when Ariel said, "I pag-ibig you, daddy." at the end. I didn't watch the movie again for a little while until today. I still pag-ibig the movie, it was just hard to watch for a while. I'm hoping to someday have a Little Mermaid themed aquarium with little fishies named after Disney isda characters.

Why I pag-ibig this movie so much:
First off, this movie has one of my paborito openings in a Disney movie. i'm not talking about Eric on his ship and the crew talking about merpeople, I'm talking about when we get underwater and we hear this soft version of Ariel's songs and see sea creatures of all shapes and sizes before we see the merpeople swimming to Atlantica. That always gives me shivers. This movie is one of the reasons why I was so in pag-ibig with the ocean and sea creatures when I was younger.

I still laugh really hard at the fact that King Triton gets this impressive introduction with the dolphins, the fanfare, and the mini lightshow from his trident but then when Sebastian is introduced he has goldfish and kazoos.

I wish there were madami pelikula where Jodi Benson sings, she has such a beautiful voice no matter the character she's doing like Ariel or Vanessa or Thumbelina. I'm not a great singer but I still pag-ibig to sing Jodi Benson's songs, especially Part of Your World. Any time I hear that song I can't help but sing along. I've watched some of The Little Mermaid tv series so I know she sings in that ipakita too but I can't get into it like the movies.

Scuttle still never fails to make me laugh. He ties with Genie and Timon and Pumbaa on the funniest sidekick listahan for me. I still call a fork a dinglehopper and a pipe a snarfblatt. And Scuttle's not the only sidekick I pag-ibig in this movie, I pag-ibig all of them, even the minor ones we see once. Like we have sea creatures joining in on Sebastian's song without tanong and when Scuttle was getting reinforcements the mga hayop coming to help just heard 911 and jumped in to help without hesitation and not even knowing what the emergency is.

I still wish we could have gotten an explaination for Ursula's past, especially since she brings up that she lived in the palace at some point. When Ariel's Beginning was announced I had hoped this was going to be part of the plot but then we got Marina...Ursula is one of my paborito Disney villains; she has one of the best villain songs, has the creepiest hideout, she's got all this self confidence in her appearance (she looks fabulous and she knows it!), and she's so incredibly evil with making deals sa pamamagitan ng demanding payment she knows will be impossible so she can add souls to her collection and using live creatures for her spells and eating small creatures alive. And Flotsam and Jetsam are so creepy with creepy voices to match.

This isn't exactly something I pag-ibig but I just want to point out that Les Poissons is so...incredibly...hard to watch.... Like, yes, we eat isda and everything but after being under the sea and watching all the isda play instruments and have fun and then sea this guy chopping up their heads and pulling out their Buto it's like...why? For the pag-ibig of all that is holy, why?

I may poke fun at Ariel saying, "Daddy, I pag-ibig him!" and "You don't even know him!" when talking about Eric but I still pag-ibig them together. I don't mind pag-ibig at first sight in the classic princess pelikula but I pag-ibig that in this movie there's pag-ibig at first sight and even though Eric doesn't know Ariel is the one he's looking for, they spend time together and we see them having fun together and it's enough for Eric to change his mind about looking for the girl who saved him and instead choose to be with the one he's spent all this time with. Of course, she is the one who saved him but I still think it's adorable. I pag-ibig the sweet looks they have when they look at each other or when they're thinking of each other and their interactions. Every time I watch this movie I always find myself thinking, "KISS HER, YOU FOOL!" And oh my gosh no matter how many times I watch Eric lift and spin Ariel at the end I still pag-ibig it!

I've seen people talk about how Gusot totally ripped off the tour of the kingdom and then the bangka ride but I have to ask, "Is that such a bad thing?" and "Isn't that something Disney's done before?" We have madami than one evil stepmother, madami than one snarky animal sidekick, madami than one character raised sa pamamagitan ng a different species, madami than one princess pag-awit to mga hayop in the forest...Honestly, I don't even notice the "rip off" in Gusot unless someone says it because even if Disney did copy it from The Little Mermaid, Gusot did a good job and made it it's own. I pag-ibig both versions of the tour and bangka ride, we see both princesses excitedly run around seeing new things and new people like they wanted, dancing like they wanted to, and ending the araw with a romantic bangka ride, one with sea creatures playing a romantic song for them while the other with beautiful lanterns surrounding them.

As much as I tanong King Triton's choices in this movie like yelling at Ariel and destroying her collection I still feel sad for him when he made the sacrifice to save Ariel from Ursula's deal and he at least felt terrible for what he did when no one could find Ariel. Even though we don't see him actually apologizing he at least saw how much Ariel loved Eric in the end and granted her wish to be human and be with the human she loved. I still tear up when Ariel says, "I pag-ibig you, daddy" at the end. I don't care what anyone says I still think that was a sweet moment!

Princess:
So here's the thing, I absolutely love The Little Mermaid and when ibingiay the chance I will always collect Ariel merch...I still only like Ariel enough to only be 4 on my list. Let me just explain, I pag-ibig Ariel's sense of adventure and her curiousity and how much of a romantic she is and all that but there's some things I really have to question. Like her making fun dapa and calling him a guppy after he almost got eaten sa pamamagitan ng a shark. That is hardly the time to tease someone for getting scared. That'd be like if I almost got hit sa pamamagitan ng a car (I got hit sa pamamagitan ng one once when I was 14) and got called a chicken afterwards. Then there's the fact that she sometimes doesn't seem to...care about others? Like she sees Ursula using live creatures for her potion to make Ariel human and while Ariel does look pretty shocked she still doesn't seem to care. And we don't see her react to Eric and Grimsby about to eat alimasag nor is it even mentioned at all what Sebastian went through in the kitchen. That might be on him because maybe he didn't tell her though I don't understand why he wouldn't. And then in the climax Ariel seemed madami concerned about Eric than making sure her mga kaibigan were okay (they were right there when Ursula was getting bigger, remember?). Look, I still pag-ibig her, I grew up wanting to be her or be like her, I just wish she had been a bit madami tactful. She's staying as 4 on my listahan because I pag-ibig her enough to keep her that high up.

Movie:
This movie is always so fun to watch for me! Other than Les Poissons, I sing along to all the songs, the characters are all still likeable (yes, even King Triton sa pamamagitan ng a little bit), and while the animation isn't as impressive as the animation in the 90s like The Lion King or Aladdin, for its time the animation was beautiful especially during the underwater scenes. This movie is 4 on my listahan too and that's where it will stay!

Rating: 9/10

Would I watch it again?
YAAAAAS

susunod movie will be The Little Mermaid 2: Return to the Sea!
Many thanks to M_gann who helped me come up with this idea and organized the first few polls, as well as to everyone who voted, commented, and naisumite their lists! Now it's finally time to take a look at which DPs we think are most popular and compare them to which DPs actually are most popular. Please take a look at link as well!

11. Merida
Actual rank: 10

Wow, I am legitimately shocked that Merida is madami popular than we thought she was. I've always viewed her as Fanpop's most hated princess, but I guess that's not true anymore! Unfortunately she's still very unpopular.

I'm going to tentatively...

So Rapunzel had a great beginning. "A single drop of sunlight" fell to the ground and created a bulaklak (?) that "had the ability to heal the sick and injured." Then because the reyna was dying, the bulaklak was mashed up and ibingiay as sopas to the reyna who got well again. And the magic affected her baby. The magic golden bulaklak caused the newborn to be born with a head full of hair, and already extremely active.

Wait, what?

Did Gothel take her right after she was born? Isn't that dangerous? Shouldn't Rapunzel be with her mother, be nurtured sa pamamagitan ng her and everything. Like, come on, at least wait until...

Finally! My Japanese Princess Appearance make it to the front page, I strongly recommend you guys to check it out. So, now is a Korean princess's turn to see on how she will look like. Ironically, I also did a poll on this too!

1. Ha Nui Lee (3rd Runner-Up, Miss Universe 2007)

She was the 3rd runner up in Miss Universe 2007 to her Japanese counterpart, Riyo Mori. She is my first choice for a Korean Princess, as she plays a Korean instrument called the Gayageum. So, she could also provide the movie some help!

2. Sa Rang Kim (Miss Universe 2001 contestant)

This contestant won the best National...

Since nobody had done this, I thought that I could write this artikulo since I pag-ibig Enya's songs!

1) Fairytale

The 3 classic princesses will definitely pag-ibig this song, as the pamagat says it all. The music is very soothing and yet at the same time mesmerizing!

2) Wild Child

Ariel and hasmin are considered fiercely independent, so this song bumagay their spunky background!

3) Anywhere Is

Belle wants adventure, so this energetic song bumagay her. Especially during the 'Belle Reprise' scene!

4) Memory of Trees

Since Pocahontas is an environmentalist, this sad song will be good and I would imagine her...

This is my updated princess tagahanga list. The biggest change is a swap-out/trade-placements of two princesses. These are my opinions. I will explain as I go.

1. Mulan
I’ll probably be a tagahanga of her my whole life. She’s the most sacrificial character in the whole Disney Princess lineup, and I can’t help admiring her for overcoming her numerous flaws. Mulan is a convincing heroine, and her humaneness is something that I find missing in some of the Revival Era girls.

2. Ariel
She was my childhood favorite, but she doesn’t seem to diminish in my...

PART 2

Hello and welcome to part one of my COUNTDOWN FOR paborito COUPLE BESIDES PRINCESS/PRINCE! Part one includes the couples that I think are just hated sa pamamagitan ng most as some of them break up a lovely couple. The couples in this part don't have a lot of redeeming qualities to them. Take a look. Read and comment. Also, I thought it would be fun to make little "reaction photos" to go along with the litrato of the couple.

THE LAST PLACE COUPLE IS. . .

33
JASMINE AND JAFAR
Jafar wanted power sa pamamagitan ng any means. When his options were running out, he tried to get power another way. sa pamamagitan ng marrying Jasmine. Not much...

So, with this topic on whether or not Elsa should be gay has been very popular over the internet, I felt it was time to tell you my opinion on this topic.

Before you get disgusted with me or anything, I have no problem with the LGBT community. In fact, my best friend is gay, and we often talk about boys and "ship" each other.

Now, there are a lot of reasons I think Disney should wait and make an original gay princess instead of making Elsa gay, I mean the main reason is I see Elsa as having no interest in romance- whether it's a male or female. I would much rather have a sequel centering around...

So, I have been hearing from many people over their disagreements about Emma Watson's casting as Belle. So, I thought that I would write this artikulo about it if she wasn't cast at all, first no hard feelings to any Emma Watson fans out there (including myself) or to the actress herself. So here are my listahan of actresses.

1. Anne Hathaway

I first heard her sing in Les Miserables, she blew everybody away with her rendition of 'I Dreamed a Dream', she's a marvelous singer in her own rights and I'm glad she's a talented actress!

2. Keira Knightley

I remember doing a poll regarding this 6 years ago...

Since it isn't so much left until pasko I decided to write a few artikulo here on that theme, not sure how many I'll do, but here's the first one. You may not remember this song, but link in case you haven't heard the song. Anyway originally the song had the 6 first Disney Princesses pag-awit the song, but I decided to redo the song a bit sa pamamagitan ng adding 6 new princesses and their parts has new lyrics. I decided to exclude Merida, so the new parts will be dedicated to Pocahontas, Mulan, Tiana, Rapunzel, Anna and Elsa. I'll write on each part which princess that has that part, anyway hope you'll...

What I will write will be similar to what I wrote on the last article. Most of my opinions are the same except for Aladdin. I wanted to write an updated artikulo because I finally rewatched Aladdin. Please no rude comments. Enjoy!

12. Brave- I despise this movie I really don't like Merida. While she may be a strong I think she is just rude and annoying. The film is so forgettable. I haven't seen the film in about 4 years and I don't plan on seeing it again.

12. Frozen- As many of you know, like bravo I detest this movie. The characters are very irritating & the movie was trying way too hard...

Charm-the Real Feminine Mystique:
"A girl need not have perfect features nor an outstanding figure to be popular. But she should have charm. As Sir James Barrie had Maggie say in his play, What Every Woman Knows, 'If you have it, you don't need to have anything else; and if you don't have it, it doesn't much matter what else you have.'

Once you have acquired charm, you'll probably never lose it. Especially after you have discovered how much happier your life is because you are considered to be that charming girl down the street.

To be charming you need not to be any particular age, weight or height...

Here's my quick top10 favorites of Disney Princess movie songs. I get stuck to a new tune or lyrics far easily, if its hummable and peppy especially. I like listening to songs and don't have particular fixed tastes in genres. Though i find, i tend to gravitate towards pop, rock and Indian music. Very rarely I enjoy classical music, although some that I pag-ibig become my all time favorites and they don't die-out. I guess that's how classic music is. Anyways, this is my current listahan of tuktok 10 favrorites songs from DP movies, it keeps changing for sure as I ilipat onto newer songs.

.... Or Are They? I keep hearing this massive distortion that Snow White, Cinderella, Aurora and sometimes others are "unrealistically perfect". Well first of all, they're not actually "perfect" but yes they strive for it and come pretty close. The number one reason? The earlier DPs were made in a time where families were still valued as well as good morals and they were on their best behavior in front of children, hoping that the kids would learn to embrace positive traits and reject negative traits so they would be madami positive people. They cared madami about well-roundedness, being modest...

Okay, so I have come across a lot of criticism against Merida that she is childish, rude, reckless, selfish and what not. But since she's my 2nd paborito princess, i'd like to put up a case in her favor for people to consider and see her in better light. I have tried to dissect the movie scenes, probed into possible perspective on various minor details that may have been overlooked.

Why she isn't sophisticated as others:
She no doubt loves both her mother and father, but Merida takes off a part of feisty, loud and unapologetically honest side from her father. She loves to fight with him, laughing...
