CLEVELAND, Ohio – "Frozen" is the highest-grossing animated film of all time. It\'s the fifth-highest-grossing film of all time. It\'s earned Oscars and the devotion of fans worldwide – and it\'s coming to Cleveland this week, with Disney on Ice Presents "Frozen."

These facts you probably already know. But in honor of "Frozen" on Ice, read on for more fascinating lesser-known facts about Anna, Elsa and others.

Loosely based on Hans Christian Andersen\'s bleak fairy tale "The Snow Queen," "Frozen" taps into classic, primal themes of good vs. bad, and finding light even when the day seems darkest (or coldest).

Disney first began exploring a possible live-action/animation biography film of author and poet Andersen in late 1937. The idea to animate "The Snow Queen" came around 1940 from Walt Disney.

In the earlier versions of the script, Elsa was an evil character – the villain.

It wasn\'t until writers remade Elsa, the Snow Queen, as a benevolent but troubled character that they felt the story gelled.

Frozen" premiered at the El Capitan Theatre on Nov. 19, 2013.

Released in theaters on Nov. 27, 2013, and on DVD on March 18, 2014, "Frozen" is the biggest animated film of all time – surpassing "Toy Story 3."

"Frozen" has thus far grossed nearly $1.3 billion worldwide.

"Frozen" has earned $400 million in the United States and Canada and $247 million in Japan.

During production, the film\'s title was changed from "The Snow Queen" to "Frozen."

"Frozen" won two Academy Awards, for best animated feature and best original song, for "Let It Go."

The longest lines these days at both Walt Disney World and Disneyland are to meet Anna and Elsa of Arendelle, often upward of three hours.

The soundtrack topped the Billboard album chart for more than five weeks, the first soundtrack in more than 15 years to do so.

If you look closely, you\'ll see Rapunzel and Flynn from Disney\'s "Tangled" make a cameo during "The First Time in Forever" sequence.

Elsa is the only Disney princess who is NOT a teenager. She\'s 21, according to director Jennifer Lee. Anna is 18.

The biggest love story in "Frozen" is not between a princess and a Knight in Shining Armor – it\'s between sisters. They\'re not waiting for Prince Charming to rescue them.

The depiction of Norway is so enchanting that it has boosted tourism for the country. Hotel bookings in the first quarter of the year were up 37 percent from 2013, and tour operators have experienced a 40 percent sales increase, according to Visit Norway.

Disney wanted extremely realistic-looking snow, so they turned to mathematics researchers at UCLA to create a snow simulator software application called Matterhorn, capable of depicting realistic snow in a virtual environment. It was used in at least 43 scenes in the film.

An animated short sequel, "Frozen Fever," will be released in spring 2015.
