I think John Smith is being brave not for just one time, but often times. He travels to many new places and he has to be brave.

Eric ends up following Ursula when she took Ariel away although he knows he has pretty much zero chances at surviving but still doesn't want to leave his girl alone with the sea witch. He stays by her side even when everything seems entirely hopeless and he as a human could have easily died when fighting for Ariel.

Next choice would be Eugene, because while he didn't know what was waiting for him in that tower and him being stabbed was more of a shocking "surprize" for him, still he chose to die in order to free Rapunzel from Gothel. I think him and Hercules were the only Disney male characters who would willingly die for their girls.

He went after Ariel even after he saw Ursela and Prince Philip is also, but if he got out of the Maleficent's grasp he would still have to battle her whether or not he wanted Aurora

Eric followed closely by Philip. Eric took on a giant sea witch, Philip took on a huge dragon. But then again, Philip's sword was fairy conjured so he had magical help. Eric had no help, no fairies, just his passion for sailing. So Eric's the bravest!
