Elsa is a complex, misunderstood character (who also happens to be my spirit animal). Aurora is a boring, one dimensional character.

Elsa's kind of like Bella from Twilight...but...happier?

uploaded900 How the hell can a human be someone's spirit animal?

Anyway, Aurora has very little personality but at least she has personality. The very little she has is a stereotypical and genetic girly princess, but it's a personality. Elsa has absolutely no personality at all. Every personality trait someone brings up about her all just revolves around one thing she has, her anxiety. So basically she only has one trait and is completely devoid of personality. We don't know anything about her and that's the weak point of her character. Someone mentioned that she's an introverted person but so was Belle and she still had plenty of personality. She was stubborn, didn't care what people thought of her, she longed for adventure, she was curious, she was a little skeptical, she knew how to have fun, and we knew about her interests. She loved to read books and that's how she spent her time when she's alone most of the time. We don't know what Elsa did in her spare time. She couldn't have possibly just spent her time being nervous 24/7. Someone's hobbies tell A LOT about what a person is like. Elsa is a plot device, a non-character, a nonentity, and most of all a blank slate. She's only there to move the plot forward and doesn't have any character to her. She's a blank slate because she's just a skin for the viewer (mainly one who has anxiety or depression) to slip on and enter into a world a fantasy and excitement where they can deal with their depression and anxiety. That's why people love her so much, because they want to imagine she has their personality instead of having her own definitive personality like the other princesses do.

Easy. "Has serious anxiety" is not a personality. Meanwhile, you have Aurora--a dreamy, playful, romantic, and mysterious girl who longs for human interaction.

I think she does have a personality, even if some of the elements do relate back to her anxiety. She's reserved, obsessive, a perfectionist, yet also playful, loving and motherly. Sure her anxiety tends to hide some of these traits, but that does not mean they're not there.

Aurora on the other hand can mostly be described as dreamy and romantic with little other elements of depth.

What other Audrey said. But I also sort agree with what both Aang and KL said (minus Aurora being generic- I think she's unique and can't name any other characters like her). Just that we understand and know less about Elsa beyond her emotions, which as others have said do not count as a personality. I think the Bella comparison was accurate- blank slates with little bits of personality (Bella is after a tomboyish, romantic bookworm who likes cars) but are mostly all emotion and meant to be projected upon/lived through vicariously.

also, you can't just call a character "complex" and say that's how she has personality. you have to explain HOW she is complex, and so far since the movie came out I haven't seen a single person argue how beyond "powers!" which isn't actually a reason. She's very simple and there's nothing necessarily bad about simple characters.

agree with Aang Lite about Elsa, the problem with her powers leads her to repress her true nature..for me she is very caring, reserved and responsible very responsible, because despite her problem she faces the coronation day and goes through it...

Am I the only one that actually thinks Elsa has a personality? Man, everyone claims that Aurora has obvious personality but I think Elsa has more personality than her. Yes, a lot of it goes back to her anxiety thing but it's still personality. She is mysterious, reserved, mature, regal, stiff, independent, yet has a really sweet playful side if you get to know her.

But that's the thing, we don't get to know her. I certainly wouldn't say that Aurora obviously has personality because it's not obvious. I had to think about it to see that she has some personality, but not much. I've tried my hardest to see Elsa's personality but I can't. Even when I loved her and had her in my top 5 I couldn't depict her personality.

PeacefulCritic picked Elsa.:
Huh...hard choice but I'll say Elsa. Even through both are mysterious characters. Elsa always seemed to have a personality. And I don't know why people are saying the only personality trait that she has lies in anxiety. Which I have two reasons to disagree with that. Number 1, When did anxiety became a trait? "a feeling of worry, nervousness, or unease, typically about an imminent event or something with an uncertain outcome."- Google. To me it sounds more like a emotion then a personality trait. And second, I thought her personality was quiet noticeable, I guess it isn't as obvious as I thought if pretty much everyone saying she doesn't have a personality. So I guess I should make it more clear. First personality trait I'm going to bring up is her insecurity, Which is what most people got confused with anxiety. Which again is a emotion not a trait. And here's what insecure means to the people who got it confused with anxiety "uncertainty or anxiety about oneself; lack of confidence." ~Google. And everyone easily saw that trait in her it was as clear as day. Being locked in a room while you have a dangerous power that your mom and dad said that you have to keep it hidden so you don't hurt anyone. Will for sure give you the trait insecurity. Her next trait was her being artistic. You know all let it go right? Yeah that ice castle, stairway and dress needed some creativity. A lot of people will disagree with this. But I also found her selfless. Her running away wasn't selfish she almost killed tons of people.(her sister as well.). So she ran away, So she wouldn't hurt anybody and left behind the royal throne to her sister. Instead of putting lives endanger while having the throne. And by the way northern mountains is where she went you know it's a lot colder in the north then the south. So I'm betting it was already snowing when she went across the ocean/long lake. So that's the end of that. Another personality trait of her is protective. First time in forever(reprise) showed that the best. In the song she kept telling Anna it isn't safe around her and she should leave until she gets hurt. And when she did, Elsa didn't notice and wanted her out right away. Anna didn't say anything to her when she was struck in the heart. And Elsa had her eyes close all through her high note in that song. So she couldn't have saw her sister got iced in the heart in fact she didn't know about it until Hans told her. Then she sat on the frozen lake crying. So please don't use that to just make your point about the complete opposite of that to just tell me that she's not. Another personality trait of hers is oblivious which is also not the hardest trait to see. In fact it made her innocence seem quiet force. She didn't notice that she froze a kingdom, her sister and a lot other times where she couldn't see what was going on in front of her. I mean seriously. It is easy to see what is going on around you. What's a matter with you. I think I made my point good enough. Even through I can explain more of her personality if you really wanted me to.

She did freaking know that Anna was struck because she saw Anna down on her knees, struggling to get up and she even gasps after seeing it. Unless you think another so called "personality trait" of hers is that she gasps at everything. That last point you made just hinted that Elsa is stupid or oblivious, either that or a victim of bad writing. So you're saying insecurity it part of her personality but that it's not a trait but instead an emotion? You basically just said it's part of her personality but that it's not a personality trait! WHAT THE HELL? Your reasoning isn't making any sense at all. Selfless, okay, fair enough, but that's not enough to say that she has a personality. Protective, again, not enough. So she only has two personality traits so far, and I would hardly call that having a personality. Elsa is a blank slate and has always been that way.

I've already had this discussion with people about this many times, so I'm not in the mood for a debate.

Anyway, in my opinion, Elsa has a personality. I personally see Elsa with a character. She's mature, a hard-worker, pessimistic, caring, selfless, dutiful, a bit of a jokster, nurturing of family, developed, regal, devoted, smart, creative, and when she wants to be, a bit of a bad*ss, and I'm willing to fight someone on that. Sure Aurora has a personality, just not as much. I see all the Disney princesses on the same level of personality, maybe just because I'm good at looking deeper at a character.

Elsa demonstrates many different layers and things to love about her. Elsa is elegant, powerful, caring, reserved, warm, protective, kind-hearted, remorseful, insecure, selfless, intelligent, playful, artistic and more. I think Aurora has personality also, like I do all the Disney princesses. Elsa has a personality I'm more fond with then a lot of the Disney princesses, she's one of the only princesses who demonstrates so many layers.

^^^^She's a victim of bad writing. Again like I said in my last comment I said she cried when she heard that Anna was struck in the heart and was dead. And inscure is a personality trait. And she dose have it it's shown all through the movie. She did lack confidence and was uncertain about herself. The five I named I thought would be a enough to call a personality. But I guess I have to explain more she's also playful, It was showed during the dance secene with Anna. She begain to play ariound with Anna by say " I don't dance. But my sister does.". That alone tells you that she's playful and if that isn't enough for you then I give you another example. She was playing with her ice powers during the majority of let it go. Next persobnality trait of hers is elegant. To her fashion sense to her movement all applies elegance. And you disagreed with me calling her protective and just told me not enough. Sorry, but explain your reason better. cause my defence is that she didn't have much screen time.

You're still not acknowledging that she did know she struck Anna because she gasped when she saw Anna nearly collapsed on the ground right after she struck her.

^^^^I don't know she seemed surprised when Hans told her. So I'm leaning towards that answer. But, I guess it's your pick. Horrid writing or Elsa just forgot that she did that. Are the only two options I could think of. So pick one.
