He's a marvelous actor, he's one of the most handsome men that ever lived in my opinion (I wish I looked like him), and would be a great choice. I don't know if he can sing but if given the proper singing lessons and a good number of them, it won't matter. Dan Stevens didn't sing before Beauty and the Beast and he sounded amazing!

and I'm sorry but how can you hate on Zendaya for looking too young (while at least being closer to Ariel's age compared to Chris and Eric) when Chris Evans is in his late 30s? That'd be way too inappropriate for someone his age to play someone in a relationship with someone in their late teens

For one, it would be likely that Disney would age up the characters a little in order to avoid the usual controversy Disney gets for having teenagers get married. Also, Dan Stevens was in his 30s when he played the Beast and did fantastic without anyone complaining. Emma Watson was 27 when she played Belle, despite that Belle was 17 in her movie. The only Disney Princess couple that hasn't been aged up to being in their twenties (At least) were Aurora and Phillip and people have complained that the actors looked too young for Aurora and Phillip. Besides, Chris looks like he's in his late 20s. Besides, as for Zendaya, she looks younger than Ariel, which doesn't help. Plus, it makes it worse because of how Zendaya is one of the WORST actresses I've ever seen in my entire life. I've even criticized her performance in The Greatest Showman (A movie I love) in my review article on the fan club for The Greatest Showman. As well as the fact that her voice just doesn't cut it for Ariel, which is a major flaw because Ariel is supposed to be this amazing singer. It's a major plot point and Zendaya's voice is FAR from being worthy of playing Ariel. Besides, the remake of the movie is open to a color-blind cast, has talking animals, merpeople, and a half octopus/squid sea witch and you think it's odd for them to age up the two main characters a little bit to being in their twenties?

I should have explained my feelings properly; I am not a fan of how hollywood pairs people with a huge age gap. Like you have men in their forties who are supposed to be with women in their twenties and I'm honestly not comfortable with that. I mean in one of Keira Knightly's first movies, Princess of Thieves, she was 15 and the guy she had to be with was 30! If Disney does age up Ariel and Eric, I'd want them to be closer in age, rather than a 10-20 age difference

so if Chris does end up being cast, I hope Disney casts an Ariel who is at least 25

@BB2010 Personally, my choice for Ariel is Anneliese van der Pol, who looks a lot like Ariel and has both the acting talent and vocal chops to for the role of Ariel. She can act both on stage and in film and plenty of Broadway credits to her name, most notably, as Belle in the Broadway version of Beauty and the Beast. As for the age gap, as long as there isn't a pedophilic age gap, I don't have a problem. Meaning as long as both actors are of legal age, have chemistry, and both look like they're adults I'm fine with it. That's one of the many problems I had with Zac Efron and Zendaya playing a couple (My main problem being them having ZERO chemistry, thanks to Zendaya and the couple not being well-done) because Zac looked like he was in his late twenties and thirty at the most (I feel the same about Chris Evans looks) and Zendaya looked like she was a really tall fourteen-year-old. I'm even kind of hoping Chris will get cast just so Zendaya won't get cast as Ariel, though that likely won't stop them. Besides, Chris isn't even really my top choice for Eric.

^yeah legal age is, of course, fine. I just wish that hollywood would cast a woman and man almost the same age together rather than having just the guy be practically old enough to be the woman's dad.

Personally I've never been too big a fan of Anneliese, I liked her in That's So Raven but I thought there were times where she tried too hard to be that ditsy friend

Yeah, that can be annoying at times.

As for Anneliese, you do realize that part of the job of an actor/actress is for them to play a variety of different roles, right? I don't mean to come off as condescending but it annoys me how people will judge one character someone has played and brand them for life. Anneliese can play a lot more than just ditzy characters. Hell, people actually argue whether the best Broadway Belle is Susan Egan (The original Broadway Belle) or Anneliese. Belle is definitely not a ditzy character but rather a very intelligent and adventurous character. She's also played other roles like playing the title character in Evita (And at the tender age of 15 and it was at a professional theatre production), Esther Smith in Meet Me in St. Louis, and her voice has been called the love child of Judy Garland and Barbara Streisand (Which is saying something). She's a versatile actress and can do a lot more than just play Chelsea from That's So Raven. When she sings, she has such power, richness, emotion, and personality. Her voice is truly gorgeous!

This is the voice of someone worthy of playing Ariel:
