Not a fan of abusive relationships...
and as much as I love Belle (which is a lot)- it always makes me crazy how she just lets him treat her that way.

And jemgrl323: She doesn't. In fact, she is the only one in the castle who stands up to the Beast. She didn't want to have anything to do with him. The servants on the other hand were scared shitless and he walked all over them. It was when he started changing that Belle gradually warmed up to him, and he gradually warmed up to her.

Belle is forced to act submissive to the beast by allowing herself to be his prisoner which right from the beginning puts them into a power struggle relationship; they can never be equal.

He keeps her locked up; he controls what she wears; he controls what she eats; he consistently yells at her. But then because Belle is so sweet and so kind she later "tames" the beast. If that's not a dangerous misinformative message about the cycle of abuse... I don't know what is.

I love Belle... after Cinderella she's my favorite Disney princess. But I just never liked her relationship with the beast. I would much have preferred her not being with Gaston or the beast. At the beginning of the movie she so desperately wanted someone to rescue her from the monotony and obscurity of her village lifestyle and for someone to understand that about her, but I'd rather have seen Belle realize that she could save herself from it all. She didn't need someone else to provide her with this "adventure in the great wide somewhere"- she could provide it for herself. So many of the princesses wait for their prince to rescue them or are in search of a companion, but Belle was different- so I guess I have higher expectations from her (but maybe those expectations are unfair to Belle and unfair to Disney).
