He's silly. At least, that's the way he comes across. Both him, Fergus, and Sultan are like having parents who are well-meaning, but aren't very intelligent.

He's loving towards his daughter but he acts silly and helpless.

Maurice is silly but he loves and cares for Bele but if he had never gone to the beast castle there would not have been the story and Belle and beast would never have met Wavesurf but i respect your opinion.
