Well, that's the thing about really rich people, if there is something out there better than most people can afford they want it. Tiffany's sells a solid platinum rattle, it costs a fortune and a baby can't tell the difference, but people still buy it :)

If they got an active in there, then they'd be able to get the pregnant woman out, wouldn't they? Also seems farfetched that the first people they think to call in when they're stranded and in labor is some secret organization.

U know what? My first impression when we first saw Eliza as a midwife, was that it must have been Caroline! That in some point in her life, before she signed away her free will, Caroline "trying to make a difference" chose to explore the midwife profession. But it was Echo instead... :S

Like Asvini said, the rich will pay for anything =D I think he chose an active rather than just a great midwife was he could programme her to be what he wanted. Like yes, great midwife but also very relaxed, very calming influence etc

hmmm i was thinking the exact same thing but perhaps this family was a high status family who had had threats to them like a very controversial presdient or priminster and they needed someone really good manage anything for a home birth who they could trust

it's a pretty important role could mean the life or death of your child not like they hired a active for a dentist or anything lol

I got the impression that they wanted a highly isolated, almost hippy-like natural birth, and that they thought a "normal" midwife would just keep trying to persuade them to go to a hospital.
