I layed as still as I could, gripping the cold mesa beneath me, as the apoy continued to burn the charred corpse that was my body. I didn't open my eyes, though I wanted to see the face of my beloved, the one who set me on fire, and the pag-ibig of my extended life. After counting to a thousand thirty seven in my head, I started to listen to the conversations going on around me, all about me it seemed. How I was doing, how long it would take, what would my reaction be to my new look. I couldn't wait to see how much I'd changed, if I really had, or to see Edward with perfect vision. Of course my vision had always been imperfect, I'd be able to see everything with perfect clarity. I couldn't wait to see him though, to feel his skin, wondering if it was still so smooth to the touch. If it would be warmer, or the same, it would be interesting.

Finally, I was free of pain, except there was a burn that rivaled the apoy in my throat, I was terribly thirsty.
