Like some other rounds she's won in this contest, this is the segundo time she's won the best comic relief round in the Fan-Made Disney Sequel Contest. It's not surprising, since her stories are about the classic Mickey mouse and mga kaibigan characters. It's clear that she knows how to write comedy and understands what made these classic characters so funny to begin with. Without any further delay, here is my interview with cruella for winning the best comic relief.
How does it feel to have won three rounds in the contest so far?
It feels amazing, to know that people think my Pagsulat is good enough to win at least three rounds.
How does it feel that you've once again won the best comic relief like in the last contest?
It really feels great. As you guys all know I ADORE these characters, so it’s very nice to know that I’m good enough at Pagsulat their humor to win best comic relief twice with them.
What comedic moment in True Treasure do you find to be the funniest and why?
That’s hard to choose, there were so many that I loved. My paborito line is probably the one where Glomgold references Cruella, just because I loved giving a nod to my paborito Disney villain. The funniest pangkalahatang scene, I would have to say is where Donald throws a plunger and hits Goofy in the face and knocks him. Then uri ng bulaklak gets mad at him and the two of them lose their tempers. I just thought the timing on everything in that scene was perfect and seemed like something you would see in an actual Mickey mouse cartoon.
What comedic moment in True Treasure do you find to be the least funny and why?
I guess the joke about the kids not liking Jessie. It is a little forced. I really hated Jessie at the time and was mad that they were planning to do a spin off, so I felt like had to get my hatred of it out some how. I don’t hate the joke it’s just kind of forced and shoe horned in there.
Are there any comedic moments in True Treasure that you don't find funny and wish you took out and why?
Like I sinabi the Jessie one is my least favorite, but I don’t know if I’d take it out. It just feels a little out of place.
Are there any jokes that you considered putting in True Treasure but decided not to?
Yeah, I really wanted to put in a joke about Launchpad crashing. Like having him trip and someone say “Can’t you take a step without crashing?” But unfortunately I couldn’t figure out where to put that joke without in being shoe-horned in and out of place.
Which humor do you find to be funnier, the humor in Pageant Pandemonium or the humor in True Treasure and why?
Both are funny in there own way. I guess if I had choose I’d say True Treasure. Mainly because I was a better writer when I wrote it so feel like managed the humor better. Also because it wasn’t a comedy I was a lot madami careful that jokes didn’t feel out of place. Pageant Pandemonium arguably had madami funny jokes than True Treasure, since it was a comedy that focused on humor, but it also had madami misses.
True Treasure is a madami serious story than Pageant Pandemonium, so how difficult was it to add in humor without making it feel out of place?
It was definitely trickier to write. I really had to consider all the jokes a lot madami carefully, and there were several that were either toned down or left out all together. For example when Scrooge and Minnie are in the cave and they find the ginto that Glomgold’s been hoarding, I thought about putting in a scene with Scrooge going crazy and diving into and swimming in the gold. But when I thought about it that would have been waaaay out character for him when he’s worried about his family. So I just had him briefly get distracted sa pamamagitan ng it.
Which comedic character was the most fun to write and why?
Oh boy, it’s hard to choose between Goofy and Donald. I guess if I had to pick, I’d say Donald was the most fun. I absolutely pag-ibig him, and his comedy, so it’s a lot of fun to write his comedic bits. He had some, of what I thought, were the funniest parts, and the best lines. Also he got a lot madami screen time in True Treasure, so I got explore his comedy a lot more.
Which comedic character was the least fun to write and why?
Probably, Launchpad. Don’t get me wrong, I adore him. But unfortunately, because how the story was set, with him being in mostly serious scenes; I just didn’t give myself enough time to explore all his possibilities, and that really bothered me.
Which was harder for you to do in True Treasure, verbal humor or physical humor and why?
Definitely physical humor. It’s always been very hard for me to describe what someone is physically doing, particularly when it happens as fast and requires as much detail as slapstick comedy. Verbal humor can also be tricky, because you don't want joke to be out of place. But it’s a lot easier to write someone saying something, than doing something.
Who would you say was the funniest character in True Treasure and why?
Either Donald or Goofy. It’s really hard to choose one because they both work so well off each other. If I had to choose I’d say Donald, I’ve always loved his comedic, slapstick shtick of loosing his temper, and I pag-ibig his snarky, sarcastic attitude. And I think he got a really chance to shine in True Treasure, like I mentioned, I think he had some of the best scenes and lines.
Which would you say was madami fun to write in terms of humor, True Treasure or Pageant Pandemonium and why?
Probably the humor in Pageant Pandemonium. Like, you mentioned True Treasure it’s a much madami serious story. That’s not to say that serious stories can’t have humor and comic relief, but it’s a lot harder to know when it’s appropriate to tell a joke in those, than in a story that’s just a comedy. And you’re not really as “free” (for lack of better word) to have fun, and put little jokes in all over the place.
It's clear that the joke about Webby and Minnie's nieces not liking the Disney Channel ipakita Jessie was you taking a jab at a ipakita you despise. Were you afraid that it would feel like you were forcing a point of view on others with these characters?
Not really. I mean, if people are going to get offended because I put in a joke about a ipakita that I don’t like then they’re way too sensitive.
Are there any interesting stories about how you came up with these jokes?
None that I can think of, off the tuktok of my head. Sorry.
You’re a judge in the contest, if you were allowed to vote for yourself, would you? (be honest)
Yeah, I would have. While True Treasure wasn’t comedy, like Pageant Pandemonium, it still had a like madami humor than the other entries.
Do you think you deserved to win? (be honest)
Yes. Not to brag but comedy is not exactly easy to write, and True Treasure had a lot madami funny moments than the other stories, mostly because of the franchise it’s based on.
How does it feel to have won three rounds in the contest so far?
