"It pains me to see you disobeying your doctrine, Russia."
"What doctrine?" Ivan asked calmly, allowing his thick fingers to be squeezed sa pamamagitan ng the child, now dressed in pajamas, resting in his lap. The three sat in another room well in the back of the large house. The radiator buzzed noisily in the corner. Ivan's boss crafted a face of disgust at the girl and continued on not answering the question.
"I came to tell you that our efforts to capture larawan from Venus are well undergo. Please come sa pamamagitan ng soon to plan for the launch of the first probe in one week."
Ivan's violet-shade eyes went wide. "One week? I think you and the Venera crew are being a bit too hasty."
"Not at all. Venus is a highly dangerous planet—it's surface is shielded sa pamamagitan ng suffocating yellow clouds of carbon dioxide. When the ulap cover thins, we launch the probe. This is scheduled to occur in one week." his boss' face, previously stern and irritable, became frighteningly serious. "Russia, we need you there."
Ivan stared down at the girl who looked about ready to nibble on his fingertips with the few teeth she had.
"Sir... I can't leave her."
A vein twitched in his superior's neck, but he stayed silent.
"Why can't you leave her with Lithuania? Or someone?" he surprisingly compromised.
"The United Nations of Lithuania and Poland have already dispersed from the house along with Estonia and Latvia. Besides, half of them already belong to Sweden. I'm might be scary," Ivan coughed, chuckling, "but I don't own everyone. How could I find a babysitter?"
His boss slammed a hairy-knuckled fist down on the desk, knocking over a leaning stack of paper and a white coffee mug with shattered immediately and stained what looked like important documents and bills.
"THEN LEAVE HER WITH THE MOUNTAIN DOGS, YOU FOOL! I JUST DON'T WANT HER AROUND!"
The child, who had been staring at the mess on the floor and snuggled closer to Ivan, wept softly upon the threat that she didn't understand.
"Well, now you've frightened her." Russia smiled, his eyes half-moons of glee. His palm stroked her hair. Russia's boss stood up and marched himself to the door cursing under his breath.
"I bet it is the reason you hung up on me earlier?! I hope you plan on getting your act together sa pamamagitan ng the launch, or the child mortality rate might just raise sa pamamagitan ng 1%!"
After he screamed these words, he left.
"Kite?"
Ivan's hand was almost to the light-switch, when he stopped. The child was snuggled into one of the guest beds too small for his subordinates, but the perfect size for a little girl. He pivoted in his loud boots and walked back over the edge of the kama and knelt down to where he saw her again, with the covers pulled up to her chin.
"Kiiiite?" she repeated, giggling, then hiding her mouth.
"Kite?" Ivan inquired in his accent. "...Did you learn another word?"
She stayed quiet and the giggling stopped. Her large eyes followed his figure as he made his way back to the light-switch again, accomplishing turning it off.
"Where going 'morrow, Grandpa?" she babbled, spreading a wide grin from ear to ear.
"No where." he blunted, monotone. "I have some papers to review on Venus."
The kama spread suddenly moved wildly as she kicked her small feet under the blanket. Puzzled, Ivan spoke the last word again.
"...Venus."
The kicking became madami violent, and her smile grew. This nearly made Ivan burst out into laughter before he left the bedroom, fastening the door shut tight and retiring for the night.
