My eyes get watery quite often at films like this, but this film was the first one that actually got me crying. It shows how far a father would go to take care of his son, and protect him.
The film is based on a true story, taking place in San Francisco, 1981. At first, Chris(W. Smith) earns his money as a failed computersalesman. Linda(Newton) works in a dead-end job in a local hotel laundry. Christopher(J. Smith), named after his father, spends the araw at a children daycare. Linda leaved father thinking that Chris didn't care about his family at all. She heard from a friend that her mga kaibigan uncle has a job for her in a restaurant in New York. At first, it seemed Christopher was going with her. At that point, there was a fight going on between father and mother about who would get to keep the child. At the end, mother gave up, and going to New York alone.
At that point, father and son are on their own. Chris accepts an unpaid intership at brokerage firm Dean Writter Reynolds that promises only one trainee at its conclusion. His lack of salary, and his lack of scanners to try to sell, leaves him riddled with debt, and he and his son eventually become homeless. After spending several nights riding busses and sleeping in subway restrooms, saddled with their meager belongings, they begin lining up at the Glide Memorial Church ona daily basis in an effort to ensure cold. As he struggles to provide a semblance of a family life for his son under the most dire of circumstances, Chris becomes madami determined to complete the intern program and become the sole trainee the firm will hire.
In the end, Chris gets the job and later starts his own brokerage firm, called Gardner Rich, in 1987. The man in the final scene that walks sa pamamagitan ng is actually Chris Gardner. In 2006, he then tells a minority for it in a multi-million dollar deal.
Jaden Smith, son of Will, makes his debut in this film.
