Interesting story, actually!

The mane six remind me of my last couple of years at secondary school, where myself and five other girls formed a singing group and, following that, just became best friends and did everything together. Our personalities are kind of similar to the mane six as well; one of my friends is really smart and is often the one to make final decisions (acting as a leader), one always looks really glamorous, one is an energetic tomboy, there is one who is not a perfectionist but always gets her jobs done (and funny enough she has a slight southern accent too - an English southern accent though!), and one who is openly crazy and loves to be random. And then I'm the shy animal lover of the group!

I think that's what got me into the series so quickly. We aren't exactly carbon copies of the characters (we all have traits that make us different to the ponies I just associated us with) but we have enough in common with each character for me to quickly make a connection with them all. That's also probably why I find the characters' designs to be so realistic! XD

Just that the whole 'don't judge a book by its cover" or in this case by its "girly name and theme song"..
