It's true that whenever you talk about Haley or Lucas, you can't help talking about Naley and Brucas/Leyton because it seems like those characters are defined by these couples. Haley is defined as Nathan's wife and Lucas as the eternal lover who can't choose and who broke the Breyton friendship. But people need to remember that those characters are more than this. Haley is a mum, a singer and Lucas is a writer, a basketball player, ect....
