, having a young, largely female fan base gives them an opportunity to spread a message of self-confidence – particularly when it comes to what they post on social media.

As part of EW’s Beyond Beautiful series, we asked

stars Lucy Hale, Sasha Pieterse, Troian Bellisario, Ashley Benson, and Shay Mitchell how they use their large social media presence to encourage their fans to be comfortable in their own skin.

“I’ve done a lot of posts with acne medicine on all my pimples, just because everyone has acne and I think that’s cool to share with people,” Benson said. “I think a lot of younger girls look at people in the entertainment industry – singers or whoever – and think they’re the skinniest people and they have nothing wrong with them.”
