Prince and I walked up to my house. We rang the doorbell.
"Don't worry. It's going to be fine." Prince said, grabbing onto my hand. We were having hapunan with my parents, and we were going to tell them about the baby. I nodded my head again. The words soothed me momentarily until my mom opened the door. It was like fear just rushed back in. I took a deep breath.
"Hey mom." I managed to get out, trying to sound happy.
"Hello, hunny!" She replied hugging me. "Hello, Prince!" She added, hugging him now.
"Do we really need to do this?" I asked him when my mom left with our coats.
"Yes! The sooner the better." He replied, now walking towards the dining room where a beautiful meal was prepared.
"Wow, mom, this is great!" I complimented as we dug in. The pregnancy cravings were already coming.
"Yes, it's truely delicious!" Prince added.
"Thank you!" Mother replied, smiling like a mad man.
It was in the middle of the meal when Prince decided it was time to tell them the news.
"Mr and Mrs. Bryant? Elle and I have something to tell you guys." He said, putting his fork down and grabbing my hand. My puso was racing, my face was getting red, my hands sweaty.
"Mom, dad, I, uh.." I was stuttering like a five taon old boy. "I'm pregnant." I managed to whisper audibly.
"What." My dad choked on his water. My mom's kutsilyo dropped to the ground. My puso sank and Prince was obviously nervous.
"P-p-pregnant?" Mother asked blinking her eyes. I nodded my head, tears coming again. Damn emotions were going on high.
"HOW?" My father's voice boomed from across the table.
"Daniel!" My mom sharply snapped at him. She could tell he was freaking me out. "Oh, hunny." She said, hugging me as the tears poured down my cheeks. When she let go, I saw my dad burrowing his face in his hands.
"Daddy! I'm, I'm sorry!" I said.
"Don't sorry me. There's nothing to be sorry about. You will not be having this baby!"
"What?!" Prince asked, almost yelling. You could tell he was getting pissed.
"SHE WON'T BE HAVING A BABY AND MAKE ME ASHAMED! IMAGINE! ME BEING A GRANDFATHER WHEN MY DAUGHTER IS ONLY SIXTEEN! SHE'S A DISGRACE!" My dad screamed.
"DANIEL!" My mom stood up from the table.
"DON'T YOU DARE EVER, EVER TALK ABOUT ELLE LIKE THAT AGAIN!" Prince yelled back at dad. He was clentching his fists. I was too shocked to be crying at this point. I just sat there, looking down, taking the insults.
"Says the boy who made her a whore!" Daddy screamed back. This snapped me out of my shock. I started to bawl. A sudden movement happened. My mom walked up to my father and slapped him hard on the cheek. Anger was etched into her face, every corner and crevase.
"You will never say anything of that sort again." She sinabi sharply, words like daggars. My mom was a classy woman. She respected everyone until they disrespected or insulted her or anyone she loved. This was an extremely odd sight to see. That was MY mom hitting someone. She NEVER did that. My father was clearly in as much awe as I was. Prince just stared at him triumphantly, holding back a smile. My mother stomped back to her seat, her blonde curls flapped on her back.
"Now. We will have a sophisticated convorsation about this." She said, looking my father dead in the eye. "So you, Prince, obviously want to keep the child?" She added, cutting a small piece out of her karneng hiniwa and chewing it. She didn't look angry or sad. She looked almost too calm.
"Well, I would like to. If Elle agreed to." He sinabi looking in my direction. My dad's eyes pierced me, but I ignored them.
"Elle?" My mother responded.
"I don't want to have an abortion." I sinabi clearly, now starting to munch on a pea.
"So you want to raise it sa pamamagitan ng yourself?" My mom asked again, looking at me. She started to calm me down.
"Elle won't have to raise it sa pamamagitan ng herself. I'll help her." Prince replied quickely, holding onto my hand tightly. I smiled and looked over at him. My mom nodded her head kindly and continued eating.
"Now that that's settled, I have to talk to you guys seriously. I'm a mom so I am entitled to these little speeches." She added. "Now, you guys are clearly extremely young to be parents. I just wanted you two to know that this is very... well, whats the word to describe it. It's dissapointing, but not completely. I'm glad to see you two handling it and taking responsibility." She finished.
"Don't I have a say in this?" My father asked, eyeing us.
"No. You don't. It is their child. Not yours. They have already decided." Mom replied, clearing the mesa off for dessert. He just shook his head.
panghimagas was extremely awkward. Barely anyone spoke, and the air was timid. When we were finishing up, my mother spoke again.
"Prince? Is it alright if Elle spent the night at your home? I need to discuss a few things with her father." She said.
"Yes, of course." Prince replied, helping me get my amerikana on.
"Thank you. And just for you to know, I will support you guys for as long as I can." She added as we walked out of the house.
"Thank you so much mom." I said, hugging her tightly. She nodded as we drove off.
"Don't worry about any of it, Elle. I promise you, everything will be fine. I'll make it be fine." Prince told me as we took an exit off of the highway. His words rung in my mind. 'Everything will be fine.' I had a weird feeling it wouldn't be.
