is sarafina the sister of sarabi or are they mga kaibigan this has been bugging me since the first movie

I believe they're just friends. It would be very pretty awkward if Simba and Nala are cousins in that case. Sarabi and Sarafina are no where related, they're just mga kaibigan and nothing else.
