After dropping lyric art on Twitter and hyping up her premiere, Selena Gomez released her new single, 'Who Says,' on Tuesday. However, those who have grown to pag-ibig the rock/electro-pop sound of the Disney bituin and her band, The Scene, will be surprised to hear a new side of Selena.
'Who Says' is a straightforward pop song that's comprised of confident lyrics, which has become a huge trend these days, thanks to songs like 'Firework' and 'Born This Way.' But gone are the heavily programmed beats and synths of singles like 'A taon Without Rain' -- the music in 'Who Says' lets Selena's voice shine.
We're not sure if the 18-year-old's entire new album will take on this back-to-pop-roots vibe, but we like it. The music fits with the lyrical content of the song, and doesn't distract the listener from its encouraging message.
"Who says, who says you're not perfect / Who says you're not worth it / Who says you're the only one's that's hurting / Trust me, that's the price of beauty / Who says you're not pretty / Who says?"
