It's Complicated Chapter Forty Two
Troy and I quickly put our luggage inside his parents' house and he had to go get another one of his bags. Then we got into his car. Ella sinabi we did not have much time until class started. We had to go sa pamamagitan ng her apartment and grab her dance bag. I was kind of excited to see Ella dance. I had not seen Ella dance in years.
As we went inside this huge building, we were practically sprinting through the halls. We came to a door and stopped. Ella sinabi something really fast and then they went somewhere. I had no idea what she said. So, I stood there like a complete and utter idiot. Everyone stared at me as they passed through the hall. It made me feel like a stranger. Which I was but, everyone was still going passed me and around me through the door. Ella came back!
"Lila, when we go in, please be very quiet," she said.
"Okay," I said.
I followed her in the large room and sat down where she threw her bag.
"Miss Black," someone sinabi as there voice echoed through the room.
That was pretty much the only the thing I could make out of their conversation.
I noticed that every pader except one had glass on it. There was a railing in the middle of the room which I found odd. People were going around me and then I saw Troy!
I smiled at him as he came over.
His lips were moving but I could not hear a thing.
"What," I asked confused, "I cannot hear you!"
He put a finger over his lips as I nodded. I must have been speaking too loud.
"What were you saying? Besides being quiet," I asked as I typed it out on my phone and handed it to Troy.
Something happened that made Troy turn around and walk away from me. He did not even get a chance to look at my message. Why could real life not have subtitles like the tv or movies? It would be so much easier for deaf and hard of hearing people. I wondered if I could call Jasper. But I really did not want to make any noise. I could not hear any noises I made. I did not want to get Troy and Ella in trouble. That would be very bad!
I sat there quietly and watched as they did various exercises that looked like they would hurt. After that every started randomly dancing. They were probably not randomly dancing. They could hear music but, I could not. I looked for some speakers in the room and found one. I was not far from it. I slowly scooted myself closer. Trying not to make any noises or anything that would draw attention to me. I got sa pamamagitan ng the speaker and put my hand on it. I could barley feel a beat coming from this large speaker. The beat that I could feel went away and I noticed out of the corner of my eye, everyone had stopped dancing. I looked over at Ella and Troy and their eyes were fixed on me. I looked around for the teacher and found her. She did not look to happy.
Her lips were moving but I heard nothing. I got up with my phone. As I went over to her I typed "I am sorry, I am deaf. What would you like me to do?"
She looked at me stunned for a moment.
"How long have you been deaf," she asked signing.
I jumped back in shock.
"About two weeks," I signed, "how do you know sign language?!"
"My parents are deaf," she signed, "I am so sorry; it must be hard for you!"
"Oh cool! It is," I signed, "I am sorry for making any racket or distraction. I just wanted to feel the beat to the music!"
"It is alright," the dance teacher signed, "Ella left out that you were deaf!"
"I am sure it has been ruff on them! Having to repeat what they are saying and dealing with people who are not polite about my deafness," I signed.
"I am sure they are just fine when it comes to dealing with that," she signed, "I will try and sign as I speak so you know what I am saying!"
"Oh, you do not have too," I signed.
"Do not be crazy! It is easy," she signed, "how did you become deaf all the sudden?"
"I do not really know; my friend will not tell me. He says it is too graphic to sign," I said, "but I was bullied sa pamamagitan ng a step-brother."
"I am so sorry to hear that," the dance teacher signed, "well, I better teach this class!"
"Okay," I signed.
I looked over at Troy and Ella who eyes were about to pop out of their heads. I gave them a smile and a thumbs up. They were so confused as ever. It was kind of funny that the hearing people were confused instead of the deaf kid.
"Since we have a deaf visitor in here, I am going to sign whenever I talk," the dance teacher sign as her lips moved, "I will also increase the volume on the music so she may feel the beat!"
"Thank you," I signed excitingly.
I put my hand back on the speaker and could feel the beat of music. The dance teacher had turned the music up louder. Just like she sinabi she would. I scooted closer to the speaker and my ears starting ringing a high pitch noise. It kind of hurt my ears.
The dance teacher raised her hand and started waving at me to get my attention.
"Sorry," I signed.
"It is okay," she signed, "just do not sit so close to the speaker and you should be fine!"
I looked over at some of the students who had their ears covered up sa pamamagitan ng their hands.
"Sorry," I sinabi to them as everyone eyes got big and their face filled with surprise.
She was not as mean as Troy and Ella sinabi she was. I thought she was really nice.
There were a lot of signs I could not understand at all. They had to be dancing signs. They were odd too!
"What is your sister's name," the dance teacher signed as she asked Ella, "do you know her sign name?"
Ella responded as Troy came over to me.
"What was all that about? And how does she know how to communicate with you," Troy texted me.
"I do not know what she asked me first but, after I told her I was deaf she started signing," I texted him.
"Oh okay, cool," he texted me back.
The dance teacher was waving her hand at mentor my attention.
"What is your sign name," she asked.
I paliguan her sign name. Which is smile with a 'L'. Jasper gave me that because he sinabi I am always smiling. Which is not true.
"What is your name," I asked sa pamamagitan ng signing.
"It is Gloria," she finger spelled, "my sign name is this!"
She showed me her sign name. Which was a 'G' at her chin.
"Cool, very pretty," I signed.
"Thank you," she signed, "are you coming back tomorrow?"
"I am not sure! I would have to ask Ella and Troy," I signed.
"Okay then. Hopefully, I will see you tomorrow," she signed.
"Bye, I am sure I will," I signed as I looked around the room, "where is Troy and Ella?"
"They went to change," she signed.
"Okay, thank you," I signed.
Gloria left the room and I was there sa pamamagitan ng myself. I remember most of Ella's dancing step or whatever you call them. I laid my phone on the floor and took my hearing aids out. I did not want those to fall off and break!
I started running across the room and did the splits in the hair. I wanted to add some better moves to Ella's dance. I ran across the room and did flip on the air. It had been a while since I done it so, I fell flat on my butt. I quickly got up and spun on my tippy toes like Ella did in her ballerina shoes. Except I was in my vans which worked for me. I did a couple of stretchy things. I had no idea what you called them. I did her whole dance plus some extra moves.
I went back over to my phone and hearing aids. I put them in when I noticed someone standing at the door. I had never seen him before till I came into this class room.
His lips were moving but I heard nothing.
"Sorry, what," I typed on my phone and handed it to him.
"That was awesome," he typed back, "I did not know you can dance!"
"Oh I cannot dance; I was just messing around," I typed.
"Well, that was really good," he typed back.
The door opened and Ella was waving her hand at me.
"Thanks, bye," I sinabi to him.
"Having fun," she asked as she turned towards me.
"I sure am," I sinabi to her.
I really was having fun! This was turning out better than I thought!
