I’ve never understood Damon’s pag-ibig for Elena. I felt like it came out of nowhere, despite her befriending him and caring about him, the writers went from him being completely and utterly obsessed with Katherine, to all over Elena within an episode (not even an episode) of Katherine rejecting him. And I realized, Elena is the Katherine Damon always wanted.
“Elena.. she’s a dead ringer for Katherine”
This line completely mirrors Damon’s pag-ibig for Elena. Because I was thinking..how can you TRULY be in pag-ibig with someone when you kill and sacrifice their mga kaibigan and family? That is NOT love. Him putting his needs and happiness above Elena’s, isn’t love. Despite Elena rejecting Damon god knows how many times, changing who he is so she will tolerate him, using his feelings for her as an advantage to use him sa pamamagitan ng manipulating him into doing things for her and always putting Stefan before him, he still chases her, when she’s making him miserable, that isn’t pag-ibig either. And I don’t think the writers sold it to me as to why Damon ‘loves’ Elena as much as he does, apart from her simply being his friend because no one else did (probably because he never even gave anyone a chance because he was such a stubborn dick, but he had no choice but to let Elena in, because he couldn’t kill her because she was with Stefan, so they had to tolerate each other)
Look at all the positive compliments and comparisons Damon’s made to Elena about her being similar to Katherine. And look how much Katherine’s done to Damon and put him through yet he STILL cares for her, and still loves her. Damon will always be in pag-ibig with Katherine, she’s the pag-ibig of his life. And all Damon wants is to be chosen, I don’t think he care’s who by. He just wants someone to pag-ibig and care for him, which is why he wants Elena, because she showed that she cared.
