he lost everything to help dean and sam... i think he gonno lose his friendship with the 2 brothers too
so yes, he lost everything for nothing like he said in the 5th season and in the end, he'll be alone...so sad and what a waste

I think just because at the point when he says the other quote he still has faith in something, in his Father, but when he says this he is just so broken. He had been so hopeful, had carried his faith in God and used it as a crutch so many times when everything else was against him that I think when he lost that faith it really broke something inside Castiel. I think if Dean hadn't gone to the graveyard and stopped Lucifer/if Sam hadn't jumped in the pit, then everyone would have turned out how they were in 2014, that losing his faith in God would have eventually turned Castiel into that sad little broken human he became in 2014 and that would have been awful.

That line was so damn sad because he lost everything he fought for in that moment.
