Sweeney Todd Tanong

Do you think that Sweeney Todd gets madami sympathy just because of Johnny Depp.

With any horror film, i always here sanctimonious fans say stuff like "he's a bastard" and "he deserves to die" about the pelikula antagonists no matter what. But with Sweeney Todd, all the fans are actually pardoning his crimes and seeing him as a person, something that most people refuse to do with any other killer. I wonder if the actor has something to do with it. Would Sweeney Todd be hated if he were portrayed sa pamamagitan ng someone else.

Sweeney Todd Sagot

I, personally, didn't sympathize with Sweeney because Johnny played him in the movie. I sympathize with Sweeney because I think he got the short end of the stick. He was unjustly thrown in jail, only to escape and find out his wife was "dead" and his daughter was in the clutches of the man who put him in prison.

I can see where you're coming from though. I don't know how people reacted to the Broadway Sweeney or Sweeney from the book, as I don't know many people who've read the book/seen the play. I think Johnny might have a hand in it - he's a brilliant actor who's a genius at bringing out the madami "human" side of "ugly" (meaning, the "bad" good guys) characters.

I sympathize for him, but not because he is played sa pamamagitan ng Johnny Depp, I also do in the Broadway musical, although I do not in the 1936 movie, since his only motivation there to kill was greed, not revenge. Also, Sweeney Todd is the protagonist in this work, not the antagonist (according to the dictionary).

According to the dictionary:

protagonist |prōˈtagənist; prō-|
noun
the leading character or one of the major characters in a drama, movie, novel, or other fictional text.
• the main figure or one of the most prominent figures in a real situation : in this colonial struggle, the main protagonists were Great Britain and France.
• an advocate or champion of a particular cause or idea : a strenuous protagonist of the new agricultural policy.

He seems to fit the labels Anti hero and Villain protaganist better.

If he's the villain then who is the hero? The only ones who oppose him are Turpin, Beadle and Pirelli,

Well yes but no... No, It wasn't just because it was Johnny Depp, like "Oh the bad guy is johnny depp, I pag-ibig Johnny Depp, so I like the bad guy" I think he gets madami sympathy because of what Johnny printed to the character, the personality that he gave him and the way he played it, so I'm saying, if there's other actor who can add all those things to the character, it can get the same simphaty.. so I think it kind of has to do with beeing Johnny but not just cus is him, but for the capability he has as an actor and what he can reaches to. I hope I made my point, enlgish and me are not good friends

Also the way Tim burton leaded it, I mean, baybe another actor could have reached it as well as Johnny sa pamamagitan ng listening and being below the rules of burton

My pag-ibig for Sweeney's character started before the Johnny Depp movie.
I understand where you're coming from; however, there's just something about his character that is still good regardless of what he has done.
