What's the meaning to the song, "Somebody Told Me"?

Sounds to me like they're pag-awit about what happens when gossip gets twisted. "Somebody told me" seems very fitting to me.

Heaven ain't close in a world of gossip. "somebody" is trying to keep him away from her.AND he isn't breaking his back just to know her name or he would just walk up and ask...BUT, he's got potential. What woman wants a wimp?

i think its about brandon hitting on this girl saying that she had a boyfriend that he had. it sounds madami like hes the gay one in the this song, look at the lyrics:
somebody told me you had BOYFRIEND who LOOKS like a girlfriend that I HAD(he did say "I HAD")in february of last year.
just take out the "who looks like a girlfriend" and its much less confusing. its not "girlfriend who looked like a boyfriend that i had" its "BOYFRIEND (who looks like a girl friend) THAT I HAD IN FEBRUARY" basically: he had a boyfriend, who apparently looked like a girl (friend) last february, and so did the person hes talking to.

He is saying that he likes this girl a lot, and she dated a guy who reminded him of a girl he used to date. In other words, he is saying he believes they like the same qualities in a mate. It makes him think he would have a good chance of them hitting it off.

i think its about a rumor that he has heard and he doesn't know where its from or who told it or something. Or maybe he was dating a trasvistite and was confused

I think itz a guy talking 2 a girl he likes saying that he heard that she got a boyfriend and he's going 2 try n win her back.

About rumors and a lesbian affair

Dude is just hitting on a girl. Its a line.. thats all. He's trying to impress her sa pamamagitan ng saying that they have similar interests...

He's talking about his ex-girlfriend being with a guy that looks like a homosexual and that happens to dress and imitate like his ex-girlfriend because he's gay (current boyfriend). He's trying to ipakita her the truth coming from a straight guy. I can understand the meaning behind it because I too am a straight guy....

Ugh everyone here is wrong! It’s a double entendre of the music industry.

“Breaking my back just to know your name,
Seventeen tracks and I’ve had it with this game.”

He is saying breaking his back to get traction as an artist, band, a song writer. He’s written and recorded seventeen tracks and his band is struggling getting any following in the industry and he’s sick of the hoops of the industry.

“Heaven ain’t close in a place like this, anything goes but don’t blink you might miss.”

Once again the jabs at the music industry. It can be dirty, evil, manipulative, unforgiving and soul draining but you have to keep going because if you stop or give up you may miss your chance at making it.

“Well somebody told me you had a boyfriend, who looked like a girlfriend, that I had in February of last year. It’s not confidential I’ve got potential”

Noting that another band has a song that’s sounds just like their style of a song that he recorded a taon prior. So it’s obvious he has potential when someone else gets play and attention imitating his style.
