He kind of thinks he's invinceble with that ring, but many times he learned that the threat of death is there anyway. He's also shown that he's trying to be a productive member of the team. Of course, he doesn't always make the right choices to prove that, but his heart is there. Sometimes to be brave, you have to push the risks aside. Jeremy does that whenever he feels he can do something that the rest of the team thinks he can't. I think if the team (namely Damon, Stephan, & Alaric) were to accept him more openly and teach him, he might start making more rational choices and one that reflect the team's choices as well.
