I know he loves Elena..but sometimes I think the whole "keep Elena alive" bit gets old. Other people on the show matter to! She's not the only one

It had to look real to Klaus, then he could tell Elena and everyone what was really happening...
She suffered but at the end of the day they fooled Klaus and Elena's friend is alive.
Like he said, at the end of the day he's the one keeping her alive. And that's what this whole thing is about... right?

He did it because he loves Elena. He is the one who is willing to do about anything to save her. Besides Bonnie was in on it. She was also willing to do it.
And yes Damon was right. He is also right when he says he will be the one saving her life.
