She doesn't take crap from anyone (especially not from Damon, which is nice), she's badass, she saves the day.

Her parents died in a car crash.
She find out she is adopted and that her mum is a vampire- who isn't exactly the world's greatest mum- and that her dad is uncle John.
She watches her Aunt, who has been turned into a vampire, die in front of her.
She forgives people for really horrible things they've done - not many people would do this. And how does Elena put up with what Damon does?! She doesn't, she just UNDERSTANDS whereas everyone else doesn't, ESPECIALLY Bonnie.

Honestly, it's rare to get people like Elena out there whereas I think it's quite common to have people like Bonnie hence why Elena earns my respect.

^yeah all of the things you said are right but these are the reasons why her character is so unrealistic to me.I'm sorry to all Elena fans but I just don't like this so perfect characters.Elena is shown as a perfect person and that's what she makes her boring to me.She hasn't got any mistakes and everything she does is right.This may be something good but I don' like this.
I respect Caroline and Bonnie because although they make mistakes they admit it and try to make it better.They can be bitchy,they can stupid but they try they're best and even if they don't reach to make it better:Nobody is perfect.
Again sorry to all Elena fans I don't want to bash her or anything...just my opinion:)I think it depends on how you see the whole thing.
