LJ Smith in an interview sinabi that The Return Series will be the series where Elena will fall in pag-ibig with Damon to the same extent that she's in pag-ibig with Stefan. However, in another interview it is mentioned that Damon's transformation from vampire to human will bring him closer with Bonnie McCullough. A new character will also be presented that will be responsible for Damon's transformation from human back to vampire.
