It was called ‘The X-Files’: soro Entertainment President Talks Possibility of madami Episodes | Variety
Here's some stuff I remembered seeing:
“The X-Files” reboot has been a major success for Fox, but will there be more episodes after the event series wraps this upcoming Monday?
While there are no firm plans at this time for a second round of episodes, with the ratings proof, Fox execs are undoubtedly discussing the possibility of ordering more episodes. Plus, the network has been promoting Monday’s finale as the “season finale” — not the “series finale.”
“We said before it aired that we would love to do more, and we are over the moon with the performance. So far, the response has been really encouraging,” Fox entertainment president David Madden tells
, speaking in an interview conducted earlier in “The X-Files” season.
He adds, “We haven’t talked to the talent yet about Season 2 in any more definitive way than we had prior to airing the show, but certainly, it seems like there’s an audience responding to the show that would love to see more episodes.”

The performance certainly has been impressive. More than 50 million international viewers watched the two-night premiere in the first three days following its debut on Fox channels in 80 countries, and “X-Files” has held strong since its season opener. Though it fell off this week opposite the Grammy Awards, the show has been strong in its return, averaging a 3.3 rating in adults 18-49 and 9.9 million total viewers in same-day averages through five episodes. The series has been a nice gainer in delayed viewing, too, with its Feb. 8 episode ranking No. 2 in 18-49 among all dramas for the week, ahead of ABC’s TGIT drama premieres and behind only AMC’s “The Walking Dead,” in “live plus-3” estimates from Nielsen. And, Fox has got to be pleased with its big online numbers via Fox Now and Hulu.
there are no official conversations under way regarding the future of the franchise, but Fox would love to make more “X-Files” happen, if they can — the main hurdle would be getting the schedules of Chris Carter, Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny to align, given their other commitments.
When asked about the possibility of a second rebooted season last month at the Television Critics Association press tour, Fox bosses Dana Walden and Gary Newman also touched on the talent subject, saying, “The biggest impediment to going forward with ‘The X-Files’ is the schedule of David and Gillian and, to an extent, Chris…but even the other night at the premiere, we were all laughing and joking that we would love to do this again. So we would be on board if schedules can be worked out.”

Long before the six revival episodes aired, Duchovny talked to
“I would never have gone and done another 22 episodes of ‘X-Files,’” Duchovny said, “but we’re going to do six — well, that’s like doing a movie. That’s like continuing the show in a way that we all can do at this point in our lives so that’s how it all came about … Six to me sounds very doable at any walk of my life. It’s not a great hardship in terms of time. I would hope it will be successful, I would hope we could continue, but right now, I’m just looking at it as these six, and then we’ll see what happens.”
Probably not to Duchovny’s surprise, the series has indeed been successful, and the potential for a follow-up is clearly there, especially with Fox’s track record of bringing back hits like “24,” which was revived in 2014 for a 12-episode limited series, and will likely come back yet again with a reimagined pilot greenlit.
And while the return of “X-Files” has been underwhelming to some critics, the fans aren’t complaining — and the numbers don’t lie.

Have thoroughly loved every single episode and laughed out loud many times. True fans get it!
If more episode are made then I hope they won’t be delayed here in the UK like the current series is – they didn’t start show it here until Feb 8th so we’ve only seen the first 2 episodes so far…..
All over the place, full of johnny exposition, dire and bloated, indulgent in the extreme. And that is being complimentary.
I’m thoroughly enjoying the continuation of the ‘X-Files’, and love how David & Gillian are more relaxed, having a little fun with it. The last episode, ‘Babylon’ was incendiary! More, please!
I absolutely enjoy the show. Always have, always will. To anyone who does not get the fact that they call each other names 20 times per show, its like one of the founding aspects of the show and its characters. Its part of their chemistry, like a husband and wife. On another note if they are trying to bring in Amell and the Ambrose girl as replacements forget it!!!!! While Amell did a great job the girl just does not have the look. Even younger she does not hold a candle to Scully who’s still looks pretty good even with the wig if I do say so myself and I do!!!!!! But please don’t make the same mistake that got it taken off the air in the first place with the dude from Scorpion. This new girls no Scully just like Patrick is no Mulder.
This “season” has definitely had its ups and downs but I have thoroughly enjoyed it and would love to see more. My 2¢.
Love the Old and New X-Files helped show the world the interest in aliens and not from an other countrie
I was hoping the new X-Files would do an intense 6-part story focused on their mythology. Well, that’s my fault for hoping. Instead we get some flat and uneven, unrelated one-offs that are a pale imitation of the old show. It isn’t terrible; they’ve had a few moments, but it’s nothing special either. Pretty disappointing overall.
an intense 6-part story focused on what mythology? Whose? They brought the show back. The show is the show. Why would they change it and make it a 6 part mythology show?
The mythology/mytharc of the show – you know, abductions, colonization in 2012, black oil, Russia, etc. They had a chance to really draw it together for the new century.
I really love the x-files and hope the new series continues, it seems like shows about the unknown, and legends are booming with the pursuit of and inspiring interest in the discovery of mysteries of the unknown. Who better could lead the expedition of the search for the truth than the well loved Mulder and Scully team. Witty , funny ,fresh yet still done so well that it portrays the seriousness of the story at hand as well as the importance of their work. They were ahead of their time when they came out and I think their time is still now and can only expect them to get better in the future
I only watched this because all the old people kept going on and on about the show and how awesome it once was. Love is blind I guess? It’s a terrible show! The acting is horrendous, the dialogue is cringeworthy, and it’s just plain boring.
How many times do they have to say Mulder and Scully? Scully. Mulder. Scully? Mulder? They keep repeating their names as if old age has made them forget they know each other!
If this show continues it’s not because it’s good! Money talks. That’s all this is for Duchovny and Chris Carter. It’s blatantly obvious… Retirement money! Duchovny has a “music” career too and he shouldn’t, (the man can’t sing) so he obviously has a bunch of people under his spell.
People can follow up with comments if they want, but I won’t be back to read them. Fire away!
Lol… Hellabored is right about the repeating names. It was annoying and noticeable. Esp Scully saying Mulder. During one ep, I lost count at 12 within about 20 minutes. What a great drinking (drunk) game tho.
its been a lot of fun. and i’m sure they can get their schedules to work… it’s the same as shooting a movie like duchovny said. if any of these people were offered a movie they would say yes. though i’d prefer to see 8 eps.
Hellabord, That’s what they do even in the Old X-Files show. That’s one of the charms. There used to be a drinking game for every time they said each others names. You really need to watch the older X-Files to understand the show.
Would someone please explain the term REBOOT to the collective press?
They seem to always use the term wrong (as in this case).
A Reboot would start at the beginning, with recasting established characters, like the JJ Star Trek (even though, that one is still kinda a sequel too)
“… the main hurdle would be getting the schedules of Chris Carter, Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny to align, given their other commitments.”
I think we can safely assume Carter’s schedule won’t be a problem. Him being so available to write is.
I’m hoping the Morgans, Wong and hopefully Vince Gillian, Frank Spotnitz and Howard Gordon will all be involved and contribute an episode. At the very least make Carter submit all his scripts to at least one of them for a rewrite.
Heck, there’s a lot of talent out there. They don’t have to have a previous association to The X-Files. Let Carter produce and direct. Just please don’t leave him to his own devices when penning a script.
Judging by Founders Mutation and Home Again, neither Jim Wong nor Glen Morgan are up to that task. Better if Chris Carter and Frank Spotnitz team up again.
Please more x files..2016 episode was excellent. Well written, directed, cast and over all produce. Big thumbs Up
Honestly, as much as I’ve been enjoying the majority of the revival, the episodes that Chris Carter wrote have all been massively clumsy, tone-deaf stink bombs, most especially this last one opposite the Grammy Awards (“Babylon”). Unless it became possible to bring the show back for an 11th season without Carter writing any episodes himself, I think we should let these characters go to their rest peacefully. They’ve earned it. We’ll never get any satisfying resolution, either to the individual character arcs, or to the overall “truth”, with him at the keyboard.
Babylon was better than the dull, plodding procedural we’ve seen a million times before that was Founders Mutation.
I LOVE the X Files return! It’s scary at times, dramatic, then pops in humor. Wonderful. I was in a different place in my life when the original series aired and I didn’t watch many episodes. Now I haven’t missed one and wait patiently for the next. Thanks, FOX. Bring them back! :-)
They have to do MORE> I first episode was a tease. The rest of them were weak. The reason the show was back was to answer the questions, didn’t happen. The truth is out there, but they need the episodes to be focused on that truth,
There were no unanswered questions. The reason the show came back is $$$ and there’s nothing wrong with that — television is a business and The X-Files is FOX’s biggest success since Empire.
What are they waiting for? They should talk with Gillian and David at this point!!!
