Chapter 1; December

~No Specific POV~

“Yu-rie! Yu-rie! Yu-rie!” Everyone cheered as 16-year-old Kiyurie Satomi stepped onto the stage. She had to perform a song, “Last Christmas”, and she was in a sexy white and silver outfit. The audience was focused on her, and Yurie gulped.
“C’mon, Kiyurie, you can do it!”
“Crush those losers!”
“Go Yurie!”
“Come on! You can do it! You’re not a wussie like all these suckers!”
They’re not all suckers, Yurie thought, but she kept quiet.
“People, people, be quiet!” A teacher yelled. “Kiyurie, go ahead.”
Yurie sighed. And she began to sing “Last Christmas.”

“Nice, Yurie.” “Awesomeness! Epic!” “Did you see that girl! Wow, what a voice!”
Chatter echoed in the room as Yurie strolled through. She was enjoying the attention, but she was focused on something else, someone that meant so much to her.

Duncan was standing in the back of the room, awkwardly, with a Nawawala expression on his face and his arms crossed. He looked like he had no idea what to do.
“Can I have your autograph?” A girl asked. “How can you sing like that?” Someone else asked her, wowed. “Beautiful. Girl!” Leshawna giggled.
But Yurie didn’t give the girl, Sierra, her autograph, or answer the tanong that were fired at her. Instead, she just smiled her dazzling smile and said, “Well...”
Then, then, she strolled off.
To the back of the room, where Duncan, her secret crush, was. “Dude,” she sinabi coolly, “what’s wrong? You look... well...” She stopped.
Duncan’s blue eyes widened as he glanced at her. He looked lost, and stuttered, surprised that Yurie was actually talking to him, and then, after a few seconds, he threw back his head, and took on the bad boy posture.
“Nothing’s wrong,” he replied with a shrug. “Why would you care...? Don’t you have to be with your popular group?”
He says it like it was something to scorn, which it was so not.
“No...” Yurie looked offended. “I just wanted to see if... never mind.”
Well, if Duncan wanted to be that rude, let him!

Everyone stared, shocked, because Duncan had turned Yurie down.
Yurie herself looked pretty surprised. Then she swung her shiny light brown hair around, playing with the blonde streak, and walked back to her desk, careful to smooth her miniskirt before sitting.
Everyone knew about Yurie’s crush on Duncan, and Duncan’s closest mga kaibigan knew that Duncan just-might-maybe have a crush on her, too.
“Excuse me!” A loud voice broke the silence as everyone turned towards the door. “How inappropriate! You should all be at your desk.”
“We were just...” Gwen, a Semi-Popular, objected.
See, in the middle school, there was the Queen. That was Yurie, and everyone liked her. There were her Court, who were her closest mga kaibigan out of the Popular group: Serina, Emily, Hulya, Rachel, Jazzi, and Sydney.
Then there were the Populars, who were Yurie’s friends, but not closest friends. And they had to have the right clothes, and a cell phone.
And there were the Semi-Populars, who were Yurie’s mga kaibigan but weren’t exactly popular.
And the rest, well...

And the guys! Well, that kingdom was totally different.
There was the King, a guy called Ryan, who Yurie used to date, and his Court.
There were the jocks. That was the susunod level.
And there were the other popular guys, and Duncan was one of them.

The teacher sighed. “Quiet. You should know better! I was absent for, what, a few minutes? And you take advantage of my absence sa pamamagitan ng clowning around like... like hooligans?”
Everyone stared, shocked. Hooligans? Then the room burst into laughter.
“Good lord, I need a new job,” the teacher muttered, putting her hand to her head.

During break, Yurie and Duncan had gone their separate ways, Yurie with her popular group, though the truth was, she didn’t care about being popular at all! It just so happens that she had the right clothes, and lots of social skills.
And Duncan was headed off with his bad-boy group, consisting of Troy, who had creepy green eyes and greasy brown hair, Josh, who was Troy’s brother and might not be so bad, and Alex, who wanted everyone to call him “Slimy” for some unknown reason.
Yurie knew to avoid them, but she couldn’t help her crush on Duncan.
“Yu-rie!”
“Yeah? Brige, what is it?”
Bridgette, a close friend of Yurie’s, giggled. “What are you staring at?”
Bridgette wasn’t a Popular, or even close, but she loved to surf and was a great friend.
That was the thing about Yurie. She was mga kaibigan with every girl in the school, and even some guys, also. Almost every guy had a crush on her, but she wasn’t like all the Populars, so snobby to everyone else. She was, well, nice!
“Nothing.” Yurie blushed, finally answering Bridgette’s question.
“What...?” Bridgette was almost sure she had seen Yurie staring out the window, at the funny looking seagull on the post over there, to the east, with its head cocking to the left every few seconds.

“Uh, okay...” Bridgette sinabi as Emily, another Popular, squealed and ran ahead to Yurie. “Omigod! Yurie, I just totally got this new flavor of lip gloss, and it’s like, so cute, and totally the right color. We have to try it on.”
“What flavor is it?” Yurie asked, not caring. But she smiled and glanced at Emily.
Emily was so cute, with her long brunette hair and green eyes, and her dusting of freckles.
“You’ll have to see,” she said, winking.
“Okay,” Yurie sighed, trying to sound excited for her friend.
Bridgette stood alone, muttering to herself. “And then there was one. Seriously, Yurie.”

~Kiyurie~

Ew, gross. This lip gloss was the wrong color, and definitely the wrong flavor. Why did Emily like it so much?
“Emily,” I sinabi for the thousand-millionth time today. “What flavor is this?”
She giggled. “Guess!”
“Uh...?”
“Oh, okay. Give up? It’s plush.”
“Plush?”
Emily brushed her hair, and said, “Yes! Isn’t it so cute?” I saw that her lips were a bright purple. Ew...
“Uh, sure, of course.”
The warning kampanilya rang. “Oh,” Emily said, shaking her head. “Break’s over. Talk about depressing!”
I sighed. “Seriously, Em, there’ll be another break,” I said, smiling. Emily was known for exaggerating, and for being the DQ. The Drama Queen. Or, as Emily would put it, the TDQNDQ. The-Drama-Queen-not-Dairy-Queen.
“We’ve got to go back to class. Come on!” I dragged her arm. “I have Art. You?”
“Science,” she groaned.
“Well, see ya!” I waved, trying to brighten her. And I headed off to my Art class.
But when I got there, there was another surprise waiting for me. Everyone was staring at me, some glaring, some sympathetic, some like, “Oh crap. I’d hate to be you!” And still madami expressions faced me, and I was relieved to at least find half the class like, “Don’t worry. You haven’t done anything wrong, I know it.”
What had I done?
“Rebecca Amelia...” Crud. My teacher. I turned slowly.
She looked at me like no teacher had ever looked at me before. Ever.

***Sixteen is a series I decided to write, starring my character, Kiyurie, and the other Total Drama Island characters as well as some real life characters. It is based on the Eleven, Twelve, and Thirteen series sa pamamagitan ng Lauren Myracle, featuring the twelve seasons as the chapters. Ask me for madami info, since I can’t explain everything here.
And also, if you didn’t know, my real name is Rebecca Amelia Kiyurie Chan, so of course, the teacher called me Rebecca Amelia.
