“Some of us are meant to be alone.” | This is the first time (and probably the only time) we really see Sawyer break down, and he trusts himself to do it in front of Kate. Not only that, but she shows such genuine concern for his feelings and feels unnecessary guilt at causing him pain. She wishes she would’ve done something different if only to spare him his grief. This scene isn’t even necessarily romantic but it shows how goddamn much they actually care about and can confide in each other.
