Just because two people have never officially been a couple, that doesn't mean that someone can't think that they WOULD be great together. Take Brooke and Nathan for example. They have never been, and never will be a couple... but I still love the idea of them. And I still love the chemistry, and the scenes between them that we have gotten. I see that their personalities, and their background are extremely similar, and I think they would make a fantastic couple. Sue me lol. And as far as "how can you still ship them? They've broken up!"... I still think this statement in general is ridiculous, but there can be exceptions. More often than not, if a couple has been together, but then have broken up... it's because something went WRONG in their relationship. And if that's the case, (depending on what went wrong, and the reasons for breaking up), then I can understand why some people would question people still liking that couple... if that couple had relationship problems severe enough to cause a breakup. Atleast when shipping AU type couples, there isn't any negativity between the couple to dwell on. They haven't had any relationship problems, because they haven't officially had a relationship. So your opinion about them is basically all in your head, and imagining how their relationship "could be". But if two people actually try to be a couple, and despite their efforts, it DOESNT work out... then that usually means there is atleast something to not like about that couple, because it didn't work out between them for a reason... and they must have had some problems as a couple. Just because a couple breaks up and has problems in their relationship, that doesn't mean that their fans are just going to totally forget about all of their good qualities, and good times that they had, and stop shipping them. And just because a couple breaks up, that doesn't make them a bad couple who doesn't deserve fans either. I personally just think it's easier to find negative qualities in a FAILED relationship, as opposed to a non existant, AU relationship. And if it's easier to find negative aspects in a couple, then it's easier to question why people would ship that couple.
