I can see some small similarities.

They both have a certain degree of that snarky interaction. Damon/Logan can be egotistical, and Veronica/Elena are amused by it at times, whereas other times they show dislike for it.

They've both had their ups and downs where you weren't quite sure they would work it out.

And then there's the Stefan/Duncan factor. Stefan is Damon's brother so that poses a pretty big hurdle for DE. && Duncan was Logan's best friend so that made for some interesting times for LV.
