Well, natural instincts would tell us to stay away from danger. And if Edward was a 'murderer', I would have naturally stayed away from him.

Why risk your life on such danger? Would I want to be associated with such a being? No, I don't. Murder is a very sinful and immoral thing to do. I would never want to be close with such a treacherous person, even IF I was in pag-ibig with him.
